You need some kitchen accessories kettle etc that tie in with the red and also some artwork. The red you have chosen looks on my monitor to be a cool red, perhaps a bit of a warmer shade would help. i would also extend the dining area curtains down to the floor, they will cosy up the space, as would a statement rug to give a bit more life to the room. If your living room is green then it may be nice to have some token green of the same shade, somewhere in the kitchen, a plant or some artwork, and add a bit of the kitchen red to your living room, so that there is some continuity of colour in your home, as opposed to having two separate colour boxes and never the twain shall meet..

If you want custom cream panelling built from scratch, it is likely to take you more than three weeks to line up a contractor, get it built and then painted. If you want to use beadboard (thin, lightweight, cheap) you can do it yourself if you are good at the small precision cuts around the wood window trim and behind the radiators. You can get a custom built wood cover with doors for your tv or use the painting over tv disguise made with hinges. I think the room is beautiful as it is. Spend some money on a truly beautiful, impressive chandelier, have it centered over the table. If you want to impress relatives at an event, the chandelier is the way to go. Clean the windows for extra sparkle. If you are in the US, try Home Decorators http://www.homedecorators.com for DVD storage cabinets that are closed. I would not get a rug for this room unless I was ready to get it cleaned frequently and I could find one that looked good with dog hair on it and did not show stains. A good quality, highly patterned wool Oriental rug will do that job nicely. Such a rug is an investment and may take longer than three weeks to find.

I think you're making great progress. CDR wanted you to put them all vertical because she thinks only professionals should style bookcases. We are/were all amateurs at one point, that doesn't mean we shouldn't decorate our own homes. You're getting there! Just keep studying the photos of bookshelves that you like and keep practicing. Just remember to keep the decorations simple. Look over the beautiful photo above from Maureen again, and you can see that some shelves are still all books, and there are only a few decorative pieces.

Thanks, is the light bouncing off it? I would go with the yellow as your accent in small doses. Bright yellow is obviously in fashion at the moment but could be expensive to replace when out of fashion so stick to cushions etc. you could do the walls in a light grey as it looks as if they could take it and choose navy or purple as your secondary colour (or turquoise/teal would work as above) for cushions, rug, accessories etc or even try a feature wallpaper. These are fairly classical colours so won't date. Try lamps etc in classical shapes (urns, ginger jars etc) so you can just change the shade when needed

I've worked from home for 28 years, so have always had/created a dedicated office. Good natural light, and ideally a view to encourage screen breaks. At the end of the day, though, without self-discipline, it makes no difference whether you have a separate home-office or perch in the dining room!

With 4 WFH at the moment, we have setup offices in four ends of the house! I’ve converted my dressing table in my bedroom which works perfectly.

One of the best places to avoid disruption during your working day is to move a work table and place it in front of a window that looks out to the street or a garden. Means you can refocus eyes when you look up from your work desk and remove eye strain, you improve general mental wellbeing by viewing nature and others outside, and you benefit from daylight direct onto your working surface without your own body causing a shadow.

Important to have a positive place wherever that is . I like also to look outside so close to window looking out to the garden or other with bright natural light . I always make sure the space is clear from clutter and allows me to focus

With no guests for the foreseeable, the 'guest' room has become a permanent office - so I've got it set up for reasonable ergonomics, and filled it with houseplants to replicate the jungle we're missing in our actual office.

We have an old ‘gate-leg’ table in the front living room bay window which looks into our (pretty) front garden for natural light and refocusing & handy to look out for deliveries. Table can be easily extended depending on how projects underway with overflow paper space on nearby sofas/floor. I found it nice to use a ’nice’ room in the house rather than be in a box room and it’s also away from washing machine noise and fridge temptations.

I'd love to be able to have an office space in its own room but at the moment I just don't have the space. So I have had to set it up on the dining table. I live alone and it's not like we're having dinner parties these days so it's not had too much of an impact but definitely something to consider for the next place I live!

Started in the dining room as that was the only table available in the house. Ordered a desk, which wasn’t that easy as many affordable and nice looking desks were sold out so quickly! Desk arrived and I have a created a mini office which is lovely and helps a lot with concentration.

I’m at my desk in the family room and my husband has set up office in the dining room. Teenage son is studying in his bedroom and daughter is home schooling between my husband and I - depending on who has meetings etc and is most available to help. She’s using an ottoman for a desk with footstool to sit on when with me and is at the opposite end of the dining room table when she’s with her dad. My top tip is to clear all work/study/school stuff away at the end of every day to give us our home back again. I put my laptop etc into my rucksack and stash that away in the cupboard and my husband and daughter have a drawer each that I cleared out in the dining room sideboard at the start of lockdown, for all their school and work stuff. When I’m finished working, I open the windows to let all the work vibes out, light a lovely smelling candle and I’m home.
