Painting Childs bedroom

Hi, I have just bought the bedding and curtains shown in the first picture. We have just had the bedroom replastered and once it is dry are thinking of painting it a similar blue to what is in the photo (if anyone knows what this colour is please let me know!). Do you think it would be best to paint the whole room blue? All the toys shown in the photo will be going in his cupboard and we will be putting a white book shelf where the drawers currently are. Any help or ideas are much appreciated!

I know mountains for kids rooms have been around for a while now but they're easy to do and quite calming so I'd do this on the bed wall and leave the other walls a light colour. I would maybe look at putting a play desk in the alcove and having shelves above that. The desk shown is also toy storage which could be handy?

Bumping 🙂. Hard to say as that blue is quite intense and in a small room it could look quite dark. I’m wondering if a half painted wall would look good whilst still keeping it light...here are some ideas.

I like Rachel's idea to paint the walls halfway up with the blue. Difficult to say which colour it is, but Dulux has some options that look very similar, like this Azure Sky https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/colour-details/h_blue?tab=1

Thanks Chemayne, yes, that is correct re: position of the bed. There is a small bedroom behind where the bed is currently and ultimately i'd like to turn it into a walk in robe. That's funny, i never considered the grey bed to be masculine, although my mum didn't like it so maybe that should have been a clue! I keep coming back to it though, but not too sure if it is too low for the room. Unfortunatley there doesn't seem to be many grey beds around to compare it with. As for those pictures, thank you. However i don't think any of them are my taste. They are all a bit busy i think. I like the white trim which i am going to get done. I think from these i'm leaing towards Ighter coloured walls as well. I think the blue walls on number 1 is a bit much and no:4 with different curtains would be okish too.

Hi Charlene. Both rooms would work. I'm assuming you like damask? Will you be papering the wall that's been stripped? What kind of budget are you on and is the existing furniture staying? Does the bed fit on the other wall btw? It looks as if you may be left with a 3ft walkway but may be wrong. Do you have a wardrobe at present and do you also have the room dimensions? If possible it would be good to have a large mirror on a long wall to make it feel wider

We bought a wardrobe for my room and sold my chest of drawers. It turns out the old wardrobe was integrated into the floor so now we need to put an entirely new floor in. You are making me start doubting whether this is the right colour to go for! Can anyone suggest a better colour to match the bedding/curtains I've bought and the size of the room please? I'm useless :(

Hi, I used Dulux Luna Landscape 5 in a small south facing room with similar bedding and curtains and some white bedroom furniture.

Dulux denim is a softer blue - I agree about 50/50 instead of full wall too.

I was thinking about this room and thought about the mountains too.

And here's why it's difficult to judge a colour by how it looks on screen: the blue in the photos of the bedding looks different depending on which photo you look at. But, I like Atlantic Blue or something similar, which is a bit calmer than the more turquoise colour. Very cute bedding :-)

Thank you so much for your help everyone. I've decided to give the two tone wall a try with a lighter blue - possibly dulux horizon haze or aerial (opinions welcome) and white and the top? Would I keep the cupboard door white and room door completely white?

Where is the best place to put the divider of the two colours? Window height? Half and half?

Hi Suzie, Great curtains!! I would pick the darker blue from what looks to be a diplodocus? I'd paint half way up the wall or two thirds up for a more contemporary look and that way it won't encroach too much into the space and will feel lighter and brighter and bigger.

It looks either a little too high or low, I would either do it 1/3 or 2/3 of the wall height so as not to cut the room in half. I would do this anyway but given the size of the room I would also take it across the wardrobe, door and skirting boards too. Appreciate it is quite a bold step though if you're not sure!

Great job! I would be tempted to raise it up a bit more so that it's more like two thirds of the way up. You could go crazy and add a pop of burnt orange if you felt bold and I would paint the cupboard and skirting too just to make it look "finished". looking fab though...

Just the cupboard and leave the door white? And do you mean the skirting on the bottom what about the white in the window? Should the blue be taken in there or left all white? Xx

I would be tempted to paint the cupboard and the door blue. I would leave the window surround white - it'll reflect in more light and be a clear defined line. painting the cupboard and door will make the whole space feel different - highlight it by getting some fab door knobs for the cupboard! yes floor skirting could be blue - what type of flooring are you having?

OK thank you so much for the advice. Do I need to use the same colour but gloss or will the paint work on them? I like the idea of new door handles for the cupboard too. We have this carpet to put down

Hi Suzie, I'm happy to help!

If you sand the doors and use a good wood primer you can use the same paint. Then you can wax over the top. A matt finish will be nice and contemporary looking and feel more natural. Glad you like the idea for the knobs, I think it'll be cute! try to add some soft furnishing and accessories with some orange for a pop of colour and use the grey from the carpet too to tie it all together. It'll be great.

He loves his new dinosaur bedroom so far. First night in there, excited for his second birthday tomorrow. Thanks again everyone for your help so far.

Awwww 🥰, that’s so sweet! Best birthday wishes to the little one 🎂. If you think it needs any more decoration then vinyl wall stickers are a cheap and easy way to add a bit of fun, loads of designs as well. My own boy (also his birthday this week, turning 9) loves his world map wall sticker and won’t part with it 😊.
