We’re undertaking a large renovation project, and have two lovely pieces of black/grey/white marble I’d love to use elsewhere in the house but I’m not sure how! Sizes are approx. 1800 x 700 and 1000 x 700. I’m toying with using them to put the basins in/on in the bathroom but it’s more tricky than I thought to suit the period. Am I missing some genius idea?! x
Assuming it’s not enough material for worktop in a utility room/boot room you could also put the marble on top of a table or washstand or butchers block. You might decide to have shelves covered in it in your pantry to keep things cool or have it cut into smaller pieces for use as chopping boards/ serving platters. You might consider cutting it into tiles for the cloakroom floor, have it cut into a round for more than one side table. You could set it into the middle of something larger such as the patio or hall floor, use it as a hearth for a fireplace, use it to bottom a reflecting pool in the garden or use it in the front garden to mount a house sign or number. You have suggested it doesn’t match the house- by having the finish of the stone “leathered” you will make it quite different.
We have a marble dining table. It’s basically just a slab (with bevelled edges) measuring 1990 x 790 and 30 mm thick laying on black steel frame, designed by my wife over thirty years ago and it’s still in great nick and looking modern (I feel).
Thank you all so much for your ideas, this is my first post and I’m truly grateful. We met with someone today who can cut the marble and use on the top of a bespoke vanity unit but with most of it leftover, I’m definitely going to explore some of these suggestions - particularly outside which could be perfect! Thank you again! x
