What colour/style of living room furniture would suit my living room?

just got a new fireplace and stove installed and I'm not sure what style and colour of furniture I should get. the room is mostly blue with navy curtains and light shade and I'm planning to get a navy blue sofa.

I currently have a black glass tv stand and a pine (ish) side table that looks a bit sad now.

I wasn't sure whether to get white furniture or if that would look too bedroomy or get wood but that might not fit with the new mantle.

Hi, lovely fireplace. Do you already have a particular sofa in mind? It would be good to see its style.

I think that a simple classic style will go very well with the more romantic/cottage-style wallpaper and the modern fireplace. I wouldn't go for all modern or all traditional, but for a mix of the two, keeping lines simple.

Going for a white sofa would help create a light and airy living room.

The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring.

The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans.

The window coverings also have to be in light materials. Consider introducing flowy sheer fabric with or instead of the navy curtains.

White or light pastel coloured area rugs in the room and avoid choosing area rugs featuring heavy and busy patterns. Braided area rugs in pastel and light colors also make a good selection.

Yellows/creams/ whites/ and grays are very fresh right now. The gray can range from light silver to charcoal, but it won't take away from bright and airy feel, because it really makes the yellows and creams stand out.

Is the chandelier thing seeming a bit small for the room or is it just me? Given that your walls are plain, the sofa is plain how about a patterned rug? Do you like Persian rugs? I find that dark green wainscotting too heavy and would paint it a lighter color. Given you have just moved in I assume you are planning to be there a while. If you like traditional style do you want a fairly safe color scheme re walls and curtains, keeping future resale in mind. Or are u happy to decorate according to your tastes? The mirror seems a bit small to me.

We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. I love the idea of sage green with your cabinets.

Thanks both. At the moment I only have one couch which is the same colour as what is there currently, and a few different rugs in grey and beige colours. I might copy the mirror that is currently there and a similar lamp as I think they look well. Was thinking maybe a clear glass coffee table in the middle over a beige rug? I guess modern would be my preffered style but Im pretty open!

I faced a similar dilemma when furnishing my longe. I have a black leather sofa, but was torn between white and oak furniture. i went for a glass coffee table with an oak frame, and a white tv unit with pale grey doors.
