Should we cut our back garden trees?

My husband and I are considering cutting the trees out the back of our garden. They have grown out of control and as you can see are very top heavy. Our garden is south west facing so they block out the evening sun during the summer and generally have a darkening effect. However, we wish to retain privacy from houses behind us (the houses behind are about half the height of trees as they currently stand).
Would really appreciate some suggestions or ideas!
Should we cut halfway and perhaps grow climber up tree trunks or should we just remove entirely (an expensive option!)?

Hi lots of different options and ideas going on. I had a similar wall and understand how mean it can be to little ones. I bought and put up the expanding wood trellis. This instantly covered the area at a very reasonable price. I then planted quick growing climbing plants. I'm not a great gardener so I cant remember what i had but ask at the garden centre they will advise you. But at least you have a barrier in place to minimize accidents.

Just chiming in. If you did put in a trampoline, I'd go with one that has a net around it. However that only stops them fro falling out onto concrete. My friend is an ER doctor, trampoline fractures are particularly gruesome, often occurring at the knee when someone lands on it. Double yikes!

not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!

We recently removed large overgrown dying trees from our back garden. We are now looking to plant for privacy, ideally to cover all the lower windows of houses behind us, 4 metres minimum ( our garden is on a lower level ). We are currently looking at clumping bamboo - either Fargesia robusta or Fargesia murieliae 'Deep Forest'. We are also looking at evergreen trees as an option. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
