Help with my living room

Hi I have an awkwardly shaped living room which is rather limited in space. I feel it dark, cold and messy. It has a fixed fireplace with stone shelves unit, 2 pine cabinets with one having a 50cm aquarium, 3 seater and 2 seater dark brown leather and a living tree infront of a small door. I need help in re designing into a cosier and a more natural feeling (like a Chinese home or a spa with plants, soft music, water sounds and natural colours f you know what I mean). The problem is that I also have two flights of stairs a small door and a corridor leading to the kitchen.
