Assessment and planning for energy efficiency

Hello, we are renovating a Victorian house. I'd like to make the house as energy efficient as possible. Our existing gas central heating system will need replacing and we want to heat the house and retain heat, in the most efficient way possible. My internet searches have left me more confused than informed!! Has anyone used such a service? We live in Manchester.

hi, my Mum lives in Marple and have recently done big eco-renovation following advice by Carbon co-op. The group are a great source of advice even if you don't use their services.

Since you are reconfiguring the footprint of these spaces, I suggest you get a local pro to help you develop a floor plan that accomodates your requirements and budget. As far as cabintery and finshes, etc, there are unlimited options - so any suggestions would be a shot in the dark without knowing more about budget and what style you are looking for.

If you are doing in-floor heating (hydronic heating) I would go with tile. If you are not, go with wood. That's from the energy and comfort perspective. It's OK to look at the two options and choose the one that's most attractive. Don't feel like you need to optimize for energy with every decision. Also, both flooring materials are reflective acoustically. Plan your other surfaces accordingly, or you'll drive yourself batty with echoes.

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. Manchester is well resources with people who know what they're doing, more so than other places.
Snug Spaces is a good one to talk to as well. He did the physical work at my mum's.
