Soooo it’s been a busy few months, still a bit of a mess, decorative touches still to sort and some boxes to unpack but almost there!
Thank you to everyone who helped with various comments and suggestions at various points, but especially to Jonathan who have a suggestion to change the upstairs layout which has made a massive difference to the practicality of the upstairs space!

The carpet was removed and new maintenance free, high pressure laminate treads and risers were built on top of the existing staircase. The side stringer panels were given a maintenance free white veneer finish and the existing staircase accessories were removed. 4 years agoBetter photo of downstairs opened up Sofa probably needs to change next year, as the corner section sticks into the room a long way and cuts it off slightly and when the tree isn't there, I can see that being quite a large area of dead space.. (so more advice will be requested! ;-) )
Oh and this is now the upstairs layout which would never have happened without @Jonathan as all we'd planned on doing is extending the back bedroom without any other structural work!

4 years agoI had thought I’d added one E D - fell off in the typical Houzz photo way!
And yea, for us we really wanted to be able to isolate rooms, so love the pocket doors! Also being able to shut off the dining room from the rest of downstairs when my other half have friends over and are playing massive board games is the reason it’s not adjacent to the kitchen...
I think if we ever sold we would swap them around!
Thanks Beano! The doors and architrave being the same colour s as the wall you see was another houzz group considered aspect we’re really pleased with!
