How do I start- design and build, interior designer, bespoke joinery?

We are about to exchange on a new property in Queens Park London where we want to make a number of changes but its definately not a full refurb. It's a combination of creating cinema room, bespoke media units (including fireplaces) which we would like to see CAD plans for, changing kitchen island, new kitchen splashbacks, bathroom cabinets, moving radiators, hallway joinery, attic joinery, outdoor fireplace, installing front electric gates, outdoor taps, full paint. I dont think it is a job that a design and build company would want as there is nothing structural. Is there such a thing as an interior design company that also has builders. joinerers and decoraters? I want to have a "one stop shop" rather than having to get contractors and quotes after the interior and garden design and need someone that can project manage it all.

It’s a tricky one in that it’s making good rather than rip out and replace. Lots of one stop shop people would prefer carte blanch on a whole new complete interior fit out. Have you done a Houzz search for trades in your local area ?

Hi there, there is a company in Ealing that might provide that service you are looking for. Not sure if they do the Queens Park area but you could always ask. I haven’t personally used them as I didn’t hear about them until after my project started but I’ve hear good reviews from the local community. I can message you the company name if you like?

HI -- Well the wallpaper was just done so there is no changing that , soooo I think you should paint the rest of that wall the same white as the white background of the wallpaper and paint fireplace mantel too. Then have two small matching cabinets painted the blue from the paper or the leaf color placed on each side of the fireplace. . Then have white or glass shelves above , maybe three is best . Now the rest of the room painted the exact color of your sofa . Because the room looks small I think it would look best to have the sofa blend into the walls color wise. Now just keep some of your room accents in the blue color but not too much. Remember not to clutter the shelves and if you don't want the shelves then have a large painting on each side and have a big round mirror over the mantel and keep the small items off the mantel and onto the side cabinets .

I've had a look at free offerings for floor planning software. It depends on the level you want to go to. Sweethome3D http://www.sweethome3d.com/ is truly free because it's open source (no fees if you want to draw more than one plan etc). I've found I can get reasonably detailed with it from layout perspective but I doubt it would be good enough for a drawings for a building permit (although I'm not certain of this). As a graphic designer you'll have an affinity for graphics software. If you want to be able to draw more detailed drawings Id take the time to learn Sketchup. I know some architects use this as their software of choice. I'm definitely with you @Jason Carter - the only way to really control your budget is to plan ahead and choose and price everything that you can think of before you break ground. Otherwise you're in a situation where you have to make quick compromises during the build which leads to mistakes etc. In my work we use requirements tracking tools. I think it would be really helpful to communicate to the contractors exactly what is going to go on in the room - why the extra outlets are there and in the position they're in. That way they have a deeper understanding of why the specs are the way they are and they don't make decisions that detract from the design - they might even come up with suggestions that support the ideas behind the designs.

Yes, I would and did start with cabinets. Browse through he kitchen photos here on Houzz until you determine your favorite styles. Start a kitchen idea book and save every photo that has something you like, cabinets will be your biggest investment. Once you know your style, begin thinking about counter tops and backsplash. One or the other will be your "star." If you already have a favorite, try to coordinate other choices with it. For example, I found my backsplash first, then chose the counter to go with it. Often people have their counter in first then struggle to find a backsplash. If you fall in love with a beautiful, busy granite you will want a simple backsplash. My floor was last, keeping it simple to avoid clashing with other choices. Good luck and have fun! This can be an overwhelming project but your friends at Houzz can help!

I think the design of the exterior has real 70s integrity. A bit of paint is all you need. Replace the garage doors with floor to ceiling windows matching the aesthetic the current windows already have. You should check out Cocontest.com for architecture work, or you could try and find an interior architect (there are degree courses in interior architecture these days) I've seen loads of one plan's posts and it would definitely be worth having a chat with them. I also think that you'll get more out of the project if you can educate yourself a little on design. I do my best to do this over on www.houseplanshelper.com
