Bathroom FAN advice

Can someone tell me if having a PVC gloss ceiling in the bathroom causes way more condensation? Even though I've got a super duper fan, my entire bathroom walls and floor are completely drenched and sat in water every time I have a shower. Everywhere is tiled (walls and floor) and when showering even though the fan is on and working and the window is wide open, water still pours down the walls creating huge puddles on the floor. I've had the fan checked and even changed, but I'm still suffering the same problem so now I'm wondering is the ceiling causing a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Because your window is open your tiles are cold- hence the condensation.
Close the window.
You might add loft insulation too

I always open the bathroom window after a shower and it soon clears the steam and condensation. The window is quite big, but we don’t get pools of water on the floor. Is the water splashing out of the shower maybe? Our walls and ceilings are painted in Dulux Bathroom Paint and only the shower enclosure is tiled. We also have a well insulated loft.

If it was me, I would centre it and only silicone the back. I understand your concerns about water going down the side. Realistically, though, as you will only be washing your hands and maybe teeth in it, there is unlikely to be much water gushing about. To detract from the fact there is not as much space on either side of sink, I would have carpenter either wall mount or put legs on the cabinet so there is space underneath and the unit doesn't look too chunky!

Front of house bathroom

Hi, We are soon to start a renovation project. We are happy with most of the plans. However, the bathroom will now be at the front of the house and we are struggling to visualize what it will look like. I have attached a sketch of the before and after and one of the side part of the extension. We just feel the window will look small and may look off-balance with the rest of the house. Does anyone have suggestions or examples of bathrooms at the front of a semi-detached home? Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks! Sinead

Just to be clear that a window open all night chills the room and you will have condensation when you have your morning shower.
You shouldn’t have to open a window at all but some people like to- consider how many people have no window in their bathroom.
My Mother in law leaves her bathroom window open all the time, has a mould and condensation problem that goes away when she doesn’t keep the window open - she defiantly keeps the window open though.

My guess is it will! As Jonathan above has mentioned any cooling of the surfaces just makes things worse, by it’s nature a painted ceiling will absorb some moisture and then it will dry out naturally, you have a totally waterproof surface now and steam will be fully in contact with it while showering, it will not absorb at ll so will gather, pool and possibly drip.

was the issue there before this ceiling?

Just a note to say my bathroom window is only open for an hour at the most to dry out the steam. In winter it is shut for the rest of the time :-)
