What to do with box for electrics in living room?

We'd very much appreciate some advice on what to do with the box containing the electric meters and trip switches in the corner of our living room (see attached photos).

These meters used to be inside a utility cupboard, which we removed. We then put a temporary MDF box around them.

Moving the meters outside, or to another wall, is unfortunately too expensive. As such, we could either move them up the wall they are on, or leave them in place and make the box into a small cupboard, perhaps with a pot plant and lamp on top. Presumably painted blue or cream to match the walls.

Does the renovation of the box where it is seem the best move? And if so, any tips on how to make it look good and fit the room?

Over to the hive mind of Houzz - which was super useful last time I asked a question like this!

Thanks :-)
