Pendant lighting over kitchen island

Hello,

I am looking for some recommendations for pendant lighting over my kitchen island.

I intend to install two pendants but I do not know whether to simply install the fittings and buy Glass lampshades separately or whether to buy the pendants with fixed shades.

My island will be dark blue and my kitchen units will be in a contrasting grey and I’d like glass shades so that they don’t make the kitchen dark but I am really struggling to find the right thing.

Any suggestions would be fab

It really depends on how high your ceilings are and the type of look you are going for. Will they make a statement or are they purely functional? I'd usually go for pendants with fixed shades because I'm usually committing to a style and I've chosen something I truly love. However, you can get some beautiful glass shades from places like made.com .

The way we fix this problem when making our custom lighting is to make our top canopy large enough to go in the center, but to be able to cover the junction box. You can use any of our pendant lights and we can put multiple ones on a single canopy to go over the island. A single long canopy would probably look best. You can make it with about 2 or 3 pendants for a simple look, or multiple pendants for a full chandelier, or a single long pendant depending on the style you like.

I would love some advice on finalizing a choice for island pendant lighting. My kitchen has 8 foot ceilings and the island will be 4'x6'. My husband is 6'1" so I want to make sure lighting isn't too low for his sight line but also to not have fixture too tall that it looks strange hugging the ceiling too closely. I like the seeded glass look and brushed nickel finish as it will coordinate with the glass front cabinet in wet bar area. I also prefer rod vs. chain or cord hanger. This light is 12.5" wide x 11.25" high. Would have a little longer drop from ceiling. I think I would do 2 instead of 3?? This light is 10.5" wide x 15.75" high. It would only have a 6" drop from ceiling so don't know if that is too big and too close to ceiling. Maybe do just 2 or possibly 3?? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These are my Laura Ashley glass pendant lights over my island. We purchased these after the wiring was put in so not integrated. Ok as background lighting but not enough for main lights in my kitchen diner.
