Worktop help please

Our kitchen started to get fitted out today. See pic.

We are going for medium oak karndean flooring.

We want a white/light worktop. Granite/quartz.

After some googling I have read white granite can be porous and stain and also granite can need maintenance to seal regularly?

Kitchen will be a 2.2 m with 1.5 bowl sink cut-out and 1.8 X .9 island with induction hob on.

The builder gave a quote of £2k for white carrera like granite, supply and fit with upstand on sink wall. I am not sure if this is a decent quote or whether we really should think of another surface?

Help please!

    I don't know where you are in the country but I think 2k is fair, bordering on reasonable. We have white quartz (admittedly not granite) but we have no problems with staining. If i see a stain i do clean it up straight away but if i missed a tiny spot and then notice it, say the next morning, it still comes off easily. It terms of streaks, we find these aren't noticeable at all. My parents have the same quartz (silestone) but in a dark grey and every time the light hits, you can see streaks everywhere whereas ours always looks sleek.
