Kitchen lighting recommendations please
See pics of new kitchen/diner space. Room measures 5m X 6m.
Kitchen run of 4m along left wall of pic to include fr/fr, oven, sink and boiler. Wired for 2 wall lights above worktop area.
Island parallel to that run. 1.8m X 0.9m.
Wired for 2 pendants above island, with extractor beside pendants.
Dining table by sliding doors, wired for central pendant above.
Also wired for pendant light by bay window.
Looking for light recommendations or stores online stores to look at/ones to avoid.
Should pendants match/coordinate with the wall lights? Any ideas welcome.
Walls all white, dark grey shaker kitchen, wooden floor.

Comments (7)Well I am a very plain sort of a person and I don't like overdoing patterns. The timber in the cupboards is beautiful and I feel that bench top would detract from it. I would have as plain as possible top in a cream/beige to enhance the timber. This would give you plenty of choice of other colours in the room. I don't feel I can really comment on colours as I can't tell the aspect of your room or the lighting nor do I know what other colours you have through the house. Comments (8)Hello Oris1978, What I would start with is painting the walls... Try a really lovely chalky cream.. Little Greene do a nice one called whitening.. It is bright and chalky and much nicer than a plain white.. Then get some nice roller blinds (for budget) Also in a light colour cream or white or something to compliment any flooring you might get... I see you don't want to spend a lot but I want to suggest a flooring. The tiles are not bad but if they are damaged then I would suggest a Lino. May not be exciting you think but when you have looked at the options from Sinclair Till, I think you will change your mind.. Images attached... There are many and I have chosen a few really fantastic designs along with a plainer one, so you get the idea. The floor space is quite big so make the most of that... Move the table and chairs further into the centre of the room... I'd even suggest painting them as well...Take the sofa out of the kitchen and move the other table to where the sofa is, if it's a table.. Can't quite tell? I'd place the items like toaster and kettle nearer so they are grouped together, thus more practical... Maybe invest in something that isn't white. I have to say one of the best investments for the kitchen has to be a Dualit toaster in Chrome! It's a style beauty! A good kettle to go with it and you're set. Dualit does a good kettle too I think it's called Architect? It too is chrome **If floor tiles are good then blinds to match in a sheer fabric not blackout as sheer is lighter and more subtle... The painting... it's lonely! Get something else or move it to a smaller piece of wall... It's really too small in that location... Comments (16)Adding more detail to my earlier comment, I don't like that equal or even heavier page weight is given to questions a user may have regarding some photo and a brand new feature story. There is no separation between the "shop Houzz" and the so-and-so liked a picture or added it to an ideabook. I don't really care whether someone I don't know added a picture to their ideabook or asked a question about a photo but I would like to see the new stories that Houzz writers have done. Not many people have the time, energy or will to go through so much effort to find those new stories that have so many times given so much information to Houzzers. What's the ceiling height? 2.75 over island, sloping to 2.1m at the sliding doors. Dining table will be under the sloping ceiling.
Do the wall lights need to be IP rated (are they over the sink?). They will be approx 2.2m high up the wall, but yes, one will be near/above sink. I will have to check out this IP rated as I dont know what that means|!|
I know it's a shaker kitchen but did you have a style in mind? Dark grey shaker, very light worktops, wood floor, style..... see pic below which that gives idea of all the colours etc.

Whats the shape and size of the dining table? Length about 1.5m, we will be buying a new table to replace old one. It will be extendable. Likely to be rectangular (or slightly oval ends)Ellie

4 years agoHi Ellie. Right ignore the IP rating, apparently a requirement for bathrooms only, I thought the same would be sensible in some areas in the kitchen but apparently not!
if you like the anglepoise I'd probably put some mid century style pendants with them. I would personally go for glass to emit as much light as possible If you're not having any downlights and a sputnik style over the table which will disperse light over the length of the table. It also doesn't visually fill the space too much which may be good with the drop in ceiling height?
Do you have any cabinet handles at all btw? I don't know how you feel about having the light hung low over the table (typically a min of 76cm above the table). I've added a pic of the black version of the brass one as it's hung even lower the 76cm. If you don't like this idea there are a number of semi-flush ones which would work.
I've also added the last pic as I guess layout is similar. Sadly the wall lights are no longer sold where they but will persist in trying to find similar if you like this look!

4 years agoThey do a pendant in the same style, too, or simply a pendant fitting. Lovely people to deal with as well.
They have other equally beautiful lights, however these are such a bargain!
