Just moved to an old house and this was the delightful ceiling under the wallpaper. How can I prepare it ready for painting? Lovely great big cracks and lots of old paint. Thank you
I think it's just gonna be a lot of elbow grease. I suspect you'll have to sand the paint off and use a load of filler for the cracks. They say that good, diligent prep is the way to achieve a good finish.
Alternatively you could put lining paper of it. You could also consider having the ceiling skimmed, but I'm not sure how practical that would be.
Definitely get a plasterer to skim it. I think they would pva the ceiling first and then skim. Easily done in a day. My stepson is a plasterer and I know he did that with ours. Looks lovely now!
