I just bought a few plants and I wanted to know if theyll grow any bigger or even how to take care of them properly, but I don't know the names of them. Does anyone know what types these are?
Hi. 1st one on the left is a sempervivum or I know it as ‘hens and chicks’. 2nd one is a barrel cactus also known as ‘mother in laws cushion’. 3rd one I had to look up but I know my mum has one outside in a pot, it’s an aeonium 'Zwartkop' or ‘black rose’. Both the sempervivum and the aeonium can survive outside but protect from frost or bring indoors over winter. Cactus likes a sunny windowsill and needs very little watering. Great set of plants and all easy to look after. I love the hens and chicks when they send out the flower stalks, they look like alien arms:)
The sempervivum needs no protect from the cold. It will be plenty hardy. They are alpine, growing on mountains sides about the tree line. Unless your colder than that, leave it outside for winter. If winter has already set in, it will need to be introduce outside gradually only a hour or more in the daytime at first, gradually giving it more and more outdoor time. If you have unheated room or a garage it could go into instead of coming back inside each time even better. YOu can try to grow it indoors for winter, but keep it fairly dry. If you encourage growth it probably get long and leggy and may attract bugs if left indoors.
