Living Room colour choice help please!

We are in the process of completely making over our lounge. I have a painting that I love (see photo) that I would like to base the colours around and we have ordered a sofa in Airforce blue with yellow scatter cushions(see photo). But I am really stuck on wall colour, carpet colour and cushions?? Do we go pale blue walls with beige carpet and what curtains?? or a pale yellow walls with ???? All help very gratefully received!

Are you wanting a darker mood to the room or pale pastels? What aspect is the room? F&B do some wonderful bluish greys that would look good, but not so good in a north facing room, or perhaps Inchyra Blie which is a deeper blue/green but quite bold! I think the warm yellow shades (think butter not the sun) would look good and cosy up the room too.

Meant to say, a warm off white is always lovely and have linen curtains in a similar hue to the walls. That painting is beautiful.

Is the chandelier thing seeming a bit small for the room or is it just me? Given that your walls are plain, the sofa is plain how about a patterned rug? Do you like Persian rugs? I find that dark green wainscotting too heavy and would paint it a lighter color. Given you have just moved in I assume you are planning to be there a while. If you like traditional style do you want a fairly safe color scheme re walls and curtains, keeping future resale in mind. Or are u happy to decorate according to your tastes? The mirror seems a bit small to me.

I must admit the cashew looks pretty white on an iPad! I would maybe try a grey with a hint of mauve (you know the colour that they quite often use for french chairs etc). I've looked at the following from zoffany: fig grey, dusk and victorian purple. They may be too much purple so you could buy a grey and mix your own with a mauve tester pot

Simple is the right style for the fireplace. But that means you can't crowd it with large furniture or it easily gets lost. Can you rearrange the furniture?

The painting is beautiful, however I would use an off white on the walls as you will have enough colour with your sofa and cushions and perhaps a pale grey carpet and then choose a rug in teal blue or light blue and ochre/mustard to tie in with the sofa and cushions

We can recommend the Candle Light Paint from Valspar (they can mix it for you at b&q). Then you can add yellow velvet cushions on a grey/ light blue sofa? Have a look at sofa.com and Loaf. They do sofas in the colour tone you are looking for. Carpet colour in beige would look chic and you won't get bored of it as it will allow you to be a bit more playful with furniture and cushions.

I'd go for blue walls but get a greenish blue, like a light but muted teal.

Hi, if you are after a calming and relaxing room, i would go for an off white or neutral grey. Those are always great as a base colour and with the splashes of colours your room will be warm and inviting, not overpowering.

It's a beautiful colour scheme what you have already created.

It is only paint on the walls, and if you really do not like it, can be repainted easily. How about going really snazzy - dark blue would go ideally well with your lovely painting, and the new cushions, and the rug.

We have Farrow and Ball James White - a limey off-white. This picture is from the f&b website and is James White with Inchyra Blue. Both of these would look fab with your ideas.
