Concrete flooring options

We very much like the finished look of polished concrete flooring but don’t think a traditional concrete installation will be possible with our project (part of room newly built, other part original house with joists & floorboards).
Aware that other options might be micro concrete or concrete effect tiles. Anyone got experience with either of these? Are there any concrete effect tiles where the joins cant really be seen? Anyone with a micro concrete floor with good or bad experiences?!

Hi Tim,

If you get very large concrete effect tiles you can create the look of a seamless floor, making the grout lines very narrow and matching the colour of the grout to the tile. Also consider the tile layout properly to place the joints in inconspicuous areas.

It might be tricky considering the two different floor bases to use one whole solid concrete slab above even if it is microcement. I have seen microcement used on walls and it looks great, but I would get a microcement specialist to tell you if it is a viable option based on your two floor bases.

hi there looking for advice for new kitchen floor 70s bungalow refurb - large open plan kitchen / living room - house is built on concrete slab and architect has included lots of large windows as kitchen end is south / southwest facing. read that dark colour in either polished concrete or natural stone carpet would gain most thermal mass gain energy wise (other than dark tiles which we want to stay away from) any thoughts advice would be appreciated! thanks

Hi Tim,

Maybe we are a little biased but I don't think you can beat the feel of walking over a seamless floor with no grout lines. Many of our clients love microcement but we also do polished toppings and poured resin. One of the main benefits is no grout to discolour keep clean.
