Thinking of putting your home on the market?

When preparing a home for market, it is crucial to analyse your home as a commercial product, critiquing it with a potential buyer's eye, does my home look well maintained? would a potential buyer aspire to living there? what are my home's weak points - let's be honest we are all aware of little or large things that are wrong with our homes, maybe evidence of an old leak, a large dent in a wall ? a somewhat botched diy paint or repair job? how does my home look externally? its curb appeal or the lack thereof?

What a unique space. I love that this isn't necessarily symmetrical. This can sometimes pose a challenge however when trying to unify a space. I would approach this dilema by addressing it with color rather than objects. Try painting inside of the bookcase shelves and the alcove a contrast color. This will allow the walls to recede and the fireplace to come forward adding depth and dimension. Here are a couple of color suggestions based on your existing furniture. C:\Users\patron\Desktop\COLOURlovers_com_daisy_101.svg Also if you place a decorative rod and scarf on the window behind the sofa that would take away from the attention going towards this space and eliminate the perception that something needs to be placed there. Please, please, please, don't paint any of the wood. You have a beautiful setting for mid century modern décor. I can agree with removing the carpet from the stairs, however I would just want to add a jute floor covering for the stairs after. The light fixtures should probably both be changed. You even have a lovely roomy space in your foyer. I always recommend starting with the foundation of the room, which is the floor covering. Kilim, ikat, Persian or Oriental would be my choice. I would think minimalist would be very fitting in this space.

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. It’s great for catering for big events. However, I use the 4 ring induction hob on a daily basis. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your project, Claire

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house.
