Kitchen Tiles dilema

I'd love a herringbone style metro tile backsplash but struggling to visualise how to tie this in around the hob and shelving, particularly the edging, lack of symmetry around the extractor, and also the boiler cover to the right.Contemplating a simpler brick metro design as a fall back but would love get some inspiration from any ideas folk may have.Ive added a snap of the opposite side of the room to show colour scheme too.Thanks to all,Alex

I rather like hexagonal tiles, the smaller the better. Something like this

Do you definitely want tiles all round? Have you considered a stainless steel sheet behind the hob and then tiles to underside of cabinets height round the remainder?

You mentioned 12mm laminated floor yet you are asking about 'wood'. These are often two different floors. Are you asking about an engineered HARDWOOD that is 12mm thick or are you talking about a 12mm LAMINATED floor (fibre board with a pretty picture of wood on the top)? Engineered hardwood works well in a kitchen (just like Oak & Broad points out). Laminated flooring normally DOES NOT do well in a kitchen. That means the answer to your question could be "yes" or "no"....depending on which floor you are talking about. Please clarify.

I suggest that you use the 12 tiles you have and like in some arrangement as a stove backsplash. You might need to use white tiles or tile strips in between your own tiles to make a pleasing arrangement. Use white tiles to complete the space behind the stove and the other areas where you want to have tile.

Have you considered other materials for your splash-back? For example in the kitchen we designed the glass splash-back matches the opposite wall by the dining area.

I do love the hexagons! Do you thos it would work better to run the tile all the way up to the underside of the bottom shelf, with shelf brackets on the tile, or finish below the brackets with edging? I do like the gold edging in the 2nd pic!

I knew you would! I personally would lay them up to the underside of the wall cupboards, but higher where the hob is, that is up to the extractor. otherwise you would have to re-drill through the tiles where the shelving is which would be a bit precarious. Hope this makes sense? Here’s an example, different tiles but I hope you get the picture.
