What bedroom theme do your kids have & what features work best?

It's definitely important that kids like and enjoy their rooms. This was my biggest aim when decorating my son's bedroom lately. I wanted him to love spending time there playing, and to make bedtime more fun. Ample toy storage was also key, so finally our living room is a toy-free zone for the first time in 4 years, yay! I've found that the space saving aspect and the bed choice are the things that have worked out best in a functional sense. Of course we are extremely pleased with the decor itself too: bright, colourful, fun and Avengers-themed so all boxes ticked.
What about you? What themes have you covered for your kid's room, or are you planning one soon? Which aspects do you think are most important and what have been your wins?

Not finished but happy my 8 yr old has plenty of storage...... homes for toys. got window seat made with that in mind.

Oh wow. She will love this when it is finished. I agree that storage is key. I really like the window seat. Those storage benches are ideas for kids rooms - and I love multi functional items. What kind of bed and flooring are you having?

They look perfect together. Maybe add a small scale white with purple polka dots for a third accent. I love the Olive green in there also. I am assuming the mink color sofa is a beige/ tan? I think a purple accent wall will look stunning with the neutrals you have picked and the fun fabrics. Things to consider when mixing patterns: from http://decoratingfiles.com/2013/05/mixing-patterns/ . Use a minimum of 3 different patterns varying the scale by using small, medium and large patterns. . Use 60% of your favorite pattern, 30% of a second pattern, and 10% of a third pattern as an accent. . The second pattern should be half the scale of the first one and have at least two colors in common with it. If you went with a floral on the first pattern, this one could be a stripe or geometric. You picked a perfect stripe! . The colors of the third pattern should compliment the first two and be the smallest in scale. .The color intensity should be the same for all patterns. For example, don’t mix pastel patterns with jewel tone patterns. Post more picks as you go! :D

I would paint the room white and wall behind bed the same color pink that is in chair and then add prints above headboard and a large piece of art on wall on the right. Change pillows on chair and bed to modern and vibrant colors in grey/pink and yellow and add a coverlette to bottom. Purchase larger lamp for table on right and remove lamp from left side of bed and place a tray and some books on the ottoman. Move carpet to beside the bed. White roman blinds and painting the door white would be a good idea and just ask at paint store what needs to be done to prime, etc. Adding a fun chandelier is also an idea. Your window is a main accent. And you need to make a start from its. I recommend you to do the follow: - open your window as much as possible. This will make the room larger; - decorate the window by asymmetrical or direct curtain (examples are below), starting right from the ceiling. It is best to use a solid color textile; - if your cabinet is not particularly necessary, I would have replaced it on the floor lamp; - on the other side, you can fold the high stack of books and use them as a decorative stand; - make a picture in passe-partout with glass and dark gray baguette frame. Add to it a vertical series of small monochrome photographs (eg sepia), and also complete passe-partout in pastel tones; - fur pillows should be replaced by textile pillows with dark gray graphic pattern; - it will be better the other pictures on the walls to remove

Adding width BEHIND THE BED - with a headboard (which doesn't have to be a "headboard"; it could be fabric, collection of mirrors, collection of pictures, a farm gate!, small chairs or stools) across the entire width. Matching bedside tables/bookcases/chests/ with LAMPS - useful storage for extra books, extra bedding, etc. CURTAINS always warm up a room. People will always feel colder away from home - provide an extra blanket or duvet to add to the bed. I notice there is no WARDROBE. Not really necessary for overnight guests (provide hooks on the back of the door) but useful for storing your out-of-season coats, etc. There is plenty of room behind the door. Buy one on eBay and paint it to suit your colour scheme.

thankyou. im really pleased with how window seat turned out, i'll be up there with a book and coffee on my day off. :-)
Carpet is going to be same throughout all house keep cost down. thick and grey/ silver.
when budget gets replenished she wants a bunk bed with desk and seat bed underneath for friends. personally I don't think she will want a bunk bed for long. Getting her to keep room tidy is going to be a nightmare. Paper.......everywhere. notes, drawings etc etc.

Ha - yes it looks like a lovely spot. Great re carpet and bed idea - I think its important that their rooms are sociable places too.

Oh tell me about it - I am always telling my son to tidy up :-)
