half glass wall divide between kitchen and hallway

We are renovating our flat and replacing a large opening between the kitchen and hallway due to fire regs. We still want to maintain the natural light flooding through from the kitchen as the hallway has no natural light source. We seen some ideas using a half glass wall but are trying to decide whether we have one full pane of glass or do something like below. The kitchen is a modern shaker in navy. Also, we don’t have black anywhere in our property but think the black framing in interesting. Be good get peoples thoughts.

Hi Alexandria, if you're still considering this could you sketch the layout or post any pictures? I feel like I don't 100% grasp the space and what you're trying to do! Will the opening be filled with just a window, or will it also have a door? Will you have kitchen cabinets & counter on the other side of the wall divide?

If the opening will just be filled with a window, I think go for multiple panes - one large glass window could look a bit odd, could have a bit of an aquarium vibe... The black crittall look you posted is lovely, and could be a good option. Would you be open to adding some black industrial touches to your decor to harmonize with it? If not, then you could consider going for a white casement style instead - which you could then paint navy / another complementary colour to match your kitchen better. Some examples in white below.

If you're having to add a wall, it can be an opportunity for more storage or a nice seating area :D So you could do half window for the top, and bottom half could be storage or seating against the wall. Either is handy in a hallway! :) Examples below

I agree with everything said so far. Would suggest you get built in book shelvers on both sides of fireplace, lift tv into a slot it fits perfectly into (make sure you have power on both sides). Then it will disappear more rather than fight with fireplace as focal point. I am always disappointed with mirrors over fireplaces, they become dark, are to high to reflect much. Plus then you have three rectangles fighting for center stage. I'd say very colorful artwork instead. Wonder if you can reorient tv where the big chairs are so both tv and fireplace are addressed? Color, maybe you should decide on furniture first?

Mary, it has been a while since I read the comments. I think you can take your time with growing with your new decluttered kitchen. It is truly beautiful with just the changes. Don't go spend a ton of money, save it and go on a holiday to a state park or something you have always wanted to do. If your friends that you invite over for dinner don't love ...... well just coming over and visiting,.... then oh well. As long as you are happy, but no need to break the bank..... you did great already. I love it, if you do more, please share though? And to bamamom, I so agree with you! My own, awful, claustrophobic kitchen is LESS than 8 ft x 11 ft... yep that tiny and horrible. I have taken out the nasty, dropped ceiling and have the slightly vaulted original one now, but with pipes showing where the HVAC was put in after and then the repiped ones....... I did not know they plumber would do this, much less the others were there.... gag me. And no money to do it up even decent.

Once again, carolins has taken the words right out of my mouth. I sometimes feel like a crusader for entertainment centers and lowering art! You have a dynamic room with so much potential. Your wall could look amazing with the armoire carolins has pictured above. Of course, lower your sconces so that they're a about 4" below the top of the armoire and about 7" from the sides. Your fireplace should be your focal point with your wall being strong but not competing. Rooms get personality from smaller accents but you have too many little things that take away from the great colored pillows and the picture. Be careful not to hang things in straight lines--top of pictures should never line up with tops of doors or curtain rods. I wish we could see your fireplace in another photo. Chairs should form conversation groups with the couch like Carolyn has outlined. I like your chandelier but you might think about lowering it or moving it above a dining table--it looks rather lost way up there.

Agreed- you need to get this right with a professional kitchen designer. But in my opinion you should be looking at a wider longer island. I would also block up the door between the kitchen and the front sitting room as I think it limits furniture placement in both rooms.
