Bi fold/French door/Sliding

Hi We have a 2 meter opening in our open plan kitchen,dining,living and not sure what sort of door to go with. As per the attached we have a large picture window to the right of where the corner stove area will be

If you want to be able to open it right up then bifold? If it is not necessary to open completely then sliding instead? Or patio doors?

Hi Janis Unfortunately I am not in the Boston area - I live in Ireland! Yes there are red items in 3 of the main rooms, the kitchen, sitting room and tv room (library) - although we have pared those back now and it's not as overwhelming. thanks for all your help everyone, i really feel like it's made a big difference and am excited to finish the tv room and then refresh the play room. do you think I should move the piano to the sitting room? and would the jazz painting work in the tv room? speak later, thanks!

I want to design a whole section of my house. It involves knocking walls etc. but when finished I will be left with a space 20 ft wide x 16.5 ft long leading off a living room & separate corridor to a garden. Room height will be 8ft. Currently there is a window & sliding patio door, but ideally I would like to replace with an entrance (nothing fancy) & glass wall or bi-fold doors. Very rough sketch of the space attached.

Hi Diane. I must admit I may be tempted to look at french doors then.You could have wide doors with glazed panels either side to let the light in. I think they'll open up wider than a patio door ( but jonathan may correct me:) !)

Help with dark, viewless kitchen and dining room

Hiya, I agree about the extra bits on the back. I would remove them including the dining room bay but retain the existing external kitchen wall and square it off with the dining room, knocking through to make a kitchen diner. I'll paste my drawing in below. - the dimensions made me think you could create a loo and even fit a shower in the kitchen space but looking again at the photos make me doubt the shower idea! - retaining the kitchen windows and back door would reduce costs - the new downstairs loo area could have a sliding door that remained open when not in use so that the light from that window reached further in - you could fit a roof light above the utility space to draw more light into the remaining kitchen area - it would be tempting to fit bi-fold doors to the new dining room opening but I would research 1930s patio doors in case you could find some more in keeping with the rest of the house - with the same goal in mind, could bricks be reused for the new section of wall required to square off the utility area and dining room? You'd need advice on the dining and kitchen doors area, e.g, a pillar might be required (which could be built into the kitchen design?) so I've just left them as is. I hope this is helpful.

Is it too late to put in patio doors that slide back I to the wall (so they are hidden when open). It will create a large opening when you want it, but I think it will be significantly cheaper than bifolds and fewer uprights to see.
