White? E se volessi del colore ? / If I would like to have some color?

Lei, la padrona di casa, ci ha chiesto una casa tutta bianca. Aveva le idee molto chiare e sul total white c'era poco da discutere. Abbiamo introdotto qualche mobile antico in legno, adottato alcuni pannelli decorativi che lei già aveva in un altra casa che stava per lasciare, scelto un pavimento seppure chiaro ma tuttavia in una tonalità non così fredda. e giocato con le luci per creare effetti diversi in zone diverse. Con Lei, la nostra ormai amica oltre che cliente, ci siamo visti l'altra sera per un drink prima delle vacanze estive e... ci detto: "ma sai che di tutto quel bianco mi sarei anche un po' stufata... mi piacerebbe avere qualche campiture di colore ma non saprei che colore e dove..."Eccolo il dilemma d'agosto per lei e per noi!Parliamone...She, the owner asked us for a white house. he had very clear ideas and there was little to discuss about the total white. We introduced some antique wooden furniture, adopted some decorative panels that she already had in another house she was about to leave, chose a floor that was clear but anyway not so cold. And played with lights to create different effects in different areas. With her, becamed our friend now as well as a customer, we met the other night for a drink before the summer holidays and she said "but you know that I'm sick of all that white... I would like to have some color backgrounds but I don't know which color and where ... Here is the August dilemma for you and us! Let's talk about...

A different floor would have the most impact. Probably look into moodlights above the kitchen, so colors can be changed throughout the day without painting any walls. Though both quite the investment...

And plants, add big plants.

I like small colored/natural surfaces divert from all the white. Love what you (and she) did to the place.

Also change the white mirror to a darker wooden frame, to go with the drawers.

Maybe paint the dressing room ceiling. Steel bar stools.

Something artistic in the corridor, like a continuous wave painted along the entire length over walls and doors.

That wall paper doesn't go at all.. and you don't need wallpapers.. how about a cream shade on the fireplace part of wall with oxblood coloured (from your curtain flowers) horizontal band below mantel, while the rest of the walls be lilac? Ever considered stoenwork similar to your fireplace on that wall? Also lower the hung photographs.. should be at least four inches below the windows' top edge.. Your sofas are quite dark. they seem aubergine.. is there any way you can at least place one of the sofas across from a window so that light falls on it? right now it is in the shadows backed against the windows, therefore more dark (does it seem so when you're in the room too?) The mirror (though nice) is too solid and thick for the mantel. can it go on a clearer stretch of some wall? fourth wall? What is the fourth wall like? idk how the fourth wall is like but how about angling large sofa at 90 degrees to the window with the single seater also angled in the corner where the lamp is.. and place the side table with lamp infront of the window (i-e at the corner of the 'L' made by t he sofas).. If possible get lighter lamp shades (cream).. Love the cushions.. place two of these cushions on the single seater to relieve the large sofa.. Please turn the rug lengthwise along the length of the sofa.. get a glass/metal table (if tots allow) or cream ottomon as center table.. The TV is too large for the rack, no? The vase is being wasted under the tv.. Florals and stripes can be mixed depending on print.. but if you bring anymore florals in this room, it would be best to match the flower shape to those in the curtains. I find the curtains too short...

We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. I love the idea of sage green with your cabinets.

There are several ways to visually widen a narrow hall and shorten a long hall. Floor: To widen a narrow hall use a diagonal floor treatment, e.g. stencil large diamond pattern on floor. To shorten the hall, use two or three runners to break up the length of floor rather than one long runner. Walls: Long walls can appear shorter by breaking up the horizontal lines.. This can be done by arranging pictures in groups rather than distributing them along the length of the wall. Hang a large painting, print or tapestry on the end wall or paint your door an accent color to create a feature. Another way to shorten a wall is create vertical sections on the wall. Trim can be used to create panels, groupings of art can create sections or large objects such as a mirror can define the segments. Directed lighting illuminating these section will also de-emphasize the length of walls. Ceiling: Minimize the visual impact of a long hall by bringing attention to the ceiling. One approach is to align the panel wall sections with ceiling panels or coffers. Or hang interesting pendant lights or a bold chandelier to redirect visual interest away from the walls.

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

I love what you've done.

The delicate pink and the bold pops of yellow and the artwork and rug are lovely touches of colour. Are these your suggestions or are they actually there?

Maybe you could introduce lighting that can change colour. So then the client can vary the colours to suit her mood when she wants.

A small collection of colourful cushion covers, rugs and art pieces could also be tucked away in some storage units and used to change things up as well depending on the season or the way she wants the house to feel.

Or maybe a couple of vases in certain places where she can place seasonal flowers, or foliage so the house can have some colour that changes to reflect the season in a more natural way.
