Need an idea of costs
Hello
I am looking to get an idea of costs and just wanted ballparks before getting people out.
Also, I don’t know if we should hire driveway people or landscape gardeners.
The first job is either repair/renew/relay existing blocked paving and add a balustrade for safety OR, would is be cheaper to have decking and possibly the whole thing steps down? (7m x 2.5m)
2nd job is to remove trees at bottom of garden, install decking or slabbed area (whichever is cheaper) to house Shed and sitting area. Slightly deeper on the right hand side to allow sun. (7m x 3.5m)
Please can anyone give me ideas?
We are looking for practical not grand and expensive!

4 years agoI'm sure one of our talented Houzzees on here would be able to mock up a suggested design for you. My initial thought is to deck the area just ouside your door and installing railings. Also I really love that awkwardly shaped tree :-) if I had a knarly tree like that I'd do something like the pic I've attached

Comments (3)Hi. I'm not sure what styles you like? Perhaps a scandi feel? Extend the grey paint to ceiling, back of shelves and skirting boards. Paint the shelves an off white and remove half of the books and mix with some art and accessories.. Paint the bed and cabinets in a pale grey and move to the right ŵall. Add white and charcoal bedding. Maybe an updated anglepoise in black or dark grey ( not too tall!) for the bedsides. Add a dark grey/ black scandi chair with sheepskin throw. Comments (1)Hello Lorna, Do you want to paint the staircase?... Or put some lovely natural flooring like Jute or Coir but only as a runner would be my suggestion.... and paint the edges white.. I do personally love that look... It's quite traditional but depending on the colour you use can actually be really modern. Or if it's a beautiful wood, then perhaps consider that it could benefit from a varnish or wax.. Comments (5)Hi. I think a Chesterfield would be nice, you can find some small ones c5ft or so which will allow for a narrow lamp table or trunk. I'd go for a ŵall to wall bookcase behind the sofa with a couple of ŵall lights affixed. I don't know what styles you like but perhaps french doors painted in a dark grey to give a crittall look. Does the tv fit in the alcove if you were to add shelves and then add art over the fire with a large mirror on the ŵall facing you? I would keep colours light (is the kitchen grey?) and although it would fill the space a little I might add a narrow upholstered footstool which you can use as extra seating and/or add a tray on one half which you can accessorise...See MoreNeed help with TV placement and decor ideas for compact living room
Comments (2)I think the only place you could put a tv is probably the corner by the window...over the fireplace is probably too high. a walnut floor and new fresher paint colour would be lovely, would you consider painting the skirting boards and fireplace white or off white to modernise them a bit? we've painted the skirting in our living room (also a walnut floor) and it looks so much better than before. (Have yet to get around to the rest of the house!!)...See More

4 years agoNo idea on costs I’m afraid but I’d stick to paving outside the patio doors as it’s easier to manage. Balustrade would be better if there are young kids in the house. Please, please, please don’t get rid of the centre tree....I’m totally in awe of that alien limb:) I think you could make a real feature out of it. I know it’s an unruly conifer but an arborist, tree surgeon or landscaper should be able to trim it neatly and make it more manageable. I was thinking that you could put some wooden props underneath and use it as a bench seat. Decking underneath would look nice as well. Here’s a few ideas (click to enlarge).

4 years agoWell against popular opinion, we decided to get rid of the trees!
The brief was basically a useable space without spending too much as we may sell within 2 years. To reduce costs we have kept existing layout, repaired block paving, gravel instead of hard landscaping. Access to rear of property is restricted so options were limited!
Trees removed, planter box, shed base, gravel patio. Gravel pathway (will have stepping stones eventually), borders, sleeper steps from house, step into house.
