Coving vs No coving

We have renovated a Mid terrace house originally built in 1910.
The lounge is the only room that has coving/plaster moulding . And now that we have plastered the whole house and have new ceilings I would like to have new covings again but modern with straight lines as opposed to patterns and curves...

What do you all think?

One of the rooms will have a coving with led uplight and the rest will have just the normal up to the ceiling coving.

Hi, The great thing about plaster coving is that you can have any pattern you wish to cast or scribe. I would suggest that high ceiling sit better with the room - but make sure that the design of the coving sits well with your interior. Below simple scribe molding in a house build 1918 and refurbished 1992

How faithful to the period are you hoping to keep your renovation? Many homes from this time would have only had coving in "the good room" and as such it would be totally in keeping to leave the other rooms without. If you do go ahead and install I would definitely go with your plan of keeping the design simple and without too many curves (curves would be more in keeping in a Victorian style home). Good luck!

You can paint the inside of FP opening charcoal and then I would go for a blue/grey and not greige. Those colors tend to be very dark. You have black furnishings and a blue/grey would look very fresh. Your art above FP has blue in it, so replace rug and get some pillows for sofa that will bring in the colors of the painting. Why not just put in some shelves, one big enough to hold tv. That would give a more open concept to room. If you need one enclosed to store components, that would fit also. I would not build up too high on the wall.

Depends a lot on what you like really. However, if you have low ceilings as we do in an 1850 cottage, you can make the wall look taller by painting your coving the same as your walls, same with the skirting. If your ceilings are of standard height 7'6" or higher then there's no hard and fast rule, just what you may prefer. It's also quite fashionable these days to paint in that manner and also to paint the doors the same colour as the walls for a seemless look .

Hi I am painting my house at the moment and time is precious on it as the painter is on site. I would appreciate any recommendations from the Dulux range - House is c. 700 sq foot, rooms small and south facing. I have coving, so I was thinking of a pure white on coving and then an off-white on the ceilings and neutral colours on the wall that create space and are warm at the same time. Doors and skirting need to be painted as well so should I keep these a pure white as well? Living area has smoked oak wood on floor. Carpet will be light cream / beige in the bedrooms and hall. Would appreciate any help as I am against time on this as the painter is on site and has all the prep work done. Many thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm not really a fan of coving unless the age or character of the house requires it and like Owl architecture, it needs to suit the room. I think Katie's idea of if you want to, keep it simple … though definitely not sure about the lights.

Hope whatever you decide looks great for you.
