What colour should i paint my walls?

I am getting a new shaker kitchen with wevet units and a pubeck stone island. I am going a grey and white marble effect matt tile for floor. I was qindering what colour to paint walls. i am hoping to put wooden stools in island and mayb wooden shelves somewhere to add some warmth.

I think all your ideas sound lovely so far. Of course you can choose the same colour for most of the walls to match the units. That look is very restful, and in fact what we have. You can always add a feature wall as Rukmini suggested which maybe highlights a seating area. You can then add your pendants to take up the same colour scheme as the feature wall. Dix Blue, Stone Blue and Parma Grey are also very nice. So if you went with the gorgeous Stiff Key Blue, you could add pendants in the same Hue such as these:-

Hi Terri,

It sounds like you have 50 shades of grey going on (excuse the pun!) in the kitchen at the moment. It really does depend on how you want the room to feel and the lighting in the room, natural and artificial. If you are going for light and airy then you might be better off having a darkish warm grey colour on the walls like cornforth white or elephants breath or if you want something a bit more fresh a pale blue like pavilion blue or skylight can work well .

If however you fancy something a bit more dramatic or would make the grey stand out you might want to think about adding a bolder colour such as de nimes or stiffly blue.

I was actually thinking of comforth white or ammonite. I just hope the kitchen wont feel cold with my colour combos.

We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. I love the idea of sage green with your cabinets.

Hi Zoe, I think I would have to agree with your sister! The right grey will look warm, whilst giving the room a fresh, clean feel. Farrow&Ball do some lovely ones, have a look at Elephant's Breath or Pavilion Grey. This colour scheme with wooden floors (natural or painted) would look wonderful. Injections of colour could then be added with soft furnishings. Hope this helps!

Would suggest white! A warm white like wimbourne white. All of the most beautiful rooms in my house are painted white! Then add in some wall art and some plants.

Hi Terri, ok so you are going for quite a light, airy, classic look looking at the colour chart, Wevet and Cornforth might be too close to each. I do think it would be a good idea to add some contrast otherwise it make all blend altogether and nothing will stand out from one another.

I suggest going for a darker colour on the units, as you suggested Purbeck stone for the island, would you be open to placing this on the rest of the units? You could do something like this:

what are you having for worktops, handles, tap, light and splashbacK? These are similar colour schemes but the floors/wood are adding a little warmth, do you have a picture of yours? I think your wood suggestions are good in any case but it would be good to know what else you're having as obviously that will effect how cool/.warm it looks

I just love those tom howley kitchens. I am having white marble quartz with upstands. i love all grey kitchens too but i was trying to go for a classic look that might not date as much. I am going for silver taps and an undermounted stainless steel sink. I am hoping to add pendants of some sort but i have nothing chosen. I was thinking industrial wood bar stools. The floor in pic below. i thought those two colours would work because i seen the chart below.

I love those lights @maths wife... especially the first one, do you know where it is from? Is it colour matched to stiffkey do you know? Our island is going to be closer to Hague blue.. hmmm something to ponder!

Perhaps look for paintcolors with a bit more blue and a bit more tan in the grey?

Do you want it to be all pastels or would you like some contrast?

top one comes from Artifact lighting. Also, if you fancy being as fussy as I am, and yes my poor husband is right, I do take it to a whole new level...............you can buy spray paint mixed to any colour and spray them. Here's the link to Hague Blue on a great website Yourspraypaints.com

I suspect as I’d want 3 I will need to find a cheaper option unfortunately.. but knowing you can get colour matched spray paint has opened up a world of possibilities so thank you!

Terri, can you put both your paint, floor, and worktop samples all together and take a photo? Has the floor actually been ordered?

The units and flooring will be in at start of next week. i will post a pic then hopefully you guys can advise. its great to get some advice and ive had some great ideas so far. . thanks alot.

Please bare in mind it is not fully finshed white and marble quartz worktops and upstands and a couple of doors to go on. I plan to buy a new table and chairs and some bar.stools for island as well. thanks

Hey Terri

Love your ideas, and the design you are going for on your Kitchen, personally as you are going down quite a grey route, I'd recommend going for the Slipper Satin colour (I've attached for your reference). This is a chalky white so will contrast against the Grey cupboards and keep the room light and airy which I assume you are going for! :) This will allows the wooden stools and shelving that you are after to stand out, add warmth and balance the space nicely. Of course I'd recommend adding colour through accessories and flowers etc, to keep the space welcoming and loved, as not to go too neutral!

Do u think that will work with the wevet units as well. the stark white doesnt go but that was only to seal the plaster. I dont know what im going for to be fair. i love the grey and white but dont want it all to feel too cold.

This look would be rather timeless and easy to re-use when wanting to change styles and colour schemes. Keeping a rather neutral palette, which is what you've gone for is a good idea for the kitchen as to not age so quickly. With the use of colourful accessories and well chosen lighting I think this space could look fab.

If you hadn't already chosen your units and had them fitted, I'd have recommended a slightly darker shade to provide some contrast, and a slightly lighter island colour. However, I wouldn't recommend darker walls, purely as your space although being a good size and having some natural light. It's not flooded with it, so wouldn't want to makes the space darker than necessary.

Anybody else have any advice. would a feature wall work in the space or perhaps not. How would u add warmth.?

Using warm and cool colors (greys in your case) will give some contrast. The cooler ones will make the warm ones look warmer. And wood adds instant warmth ;)
