Paint colour advice to go with wall paper.

Hi!.

I looking for some wall paint ideas which will compliment my choice of Harlequin Momentum 5 Arccos Wallpaper (Ochre/Steel).

I'm hoping to create a moody, sultry, cosy wintery feel :-) in our snug / second lounge. Unfortunately the carpet is staying and so is the sofa so I'd like to make everything to compliment each other. The rest of the house has quite earthy tones so something to work alongside would be good.

My thoughts included Little Green Hicks' Blue or Valspar Shadow Core but I'm open to suggestions, please.

And any styling ideas you might have and want to share!

This is a beautiful wallpaper choice!

Answering your question I wouldn't advice to go with any colour shade from the wallpaper - either grey or green or even gold for the rest of the walls - simply because it will be too obvious. You have beautiful sofa - as I can see from the photos this colour is close to rustic red with an orange hue. What I would choose being you, and what would compliment your whole colour scheme including curtains choice is: https://www.farrow-ball.com/paint-colours/sulking-room-pink which will go very well with your wallpaper, curtains, sofa and carpet. You simply need something which will blend together heavy sofa, curtains and elegant wallpaper. I wouldn't also use the colour similar to the colour of your sofa as it will look too heavy. It has to be something, which is light in weight and is connecting elegantly with your wallpaper choice and connect to sofa at the same time. If you leave sofa not connected to the colour of the wall it will look as you left a separate piece of furniture in the room. With the colour choice I sent you as an example your room will look stylish and warm at the same time. You can then add a warm grey wool blanket (hand crafted ideally) and mixed cushions matched to the colour of curtains, also a bit of grey too.

I'd be tempted to go with one of the neutral warmer tones rather than grey so that you don't alienate the carpet and sofa.

Lay the paper on the sofa as that's the strongest colour and pick out a few that you like.

I would then take the paper to somewhere that mixes Valspar and get them to copy the colour from the paper. That ensures an exact match rather than working from colour cards and trying to guess.

Hi I notice your blind and lamp are Laura Ashley Pelham. Laura Ashley does a duck egg white, pale duck egg and duck egg paint colours. Maybe you could have the duck egg white as the predominant colour and use in both rooms but also use the pale duck egg or duck egg in the lounge, or add some wallpaper. Not sure grey walls would work with the kitchen units. Perhaps more of a taupe/warm grey would work in both spaces though.

Would suggest white! A warm white like wimbourne white. All of the most beautiful rooms in my house are painted white! Then add in some wall art and some plants.

The sofa is quite a strong colour. When we put several strong colours together they interact with each other and opposite colours will interact the most. Painting the walls blue will create a focus between the wall and the sofa as they are opposite in hue. A duller stoney green colour would be worth considering like on the image posted by Maths Wife. I disagree about picking out a colour from the paper, it seems logical to me. I would then pick out a more saturated opposite colour as a smaller accent.

Sorry, I mean that I disagree with the previous comment that picking out a colour from the paper would be too obvious, I think that it is fine to do that. still would require lots of test pots though.
