Howdy! We’ve just bought a house that’s got a bit of an awkward living room shape. Would be really interested in any ideas for layouts. Open to pretty much anything though it may be aspirational for a bit while we save up over time!
That is quite an odd shaped living room, don't worry I see this a lot and there are ways around it as long as you get a bit creative!
So firstly, you will need to consider how you will be using this room with the stairs in mind. I am going to assume that you'd like to have it as a separate area as you would do in most homes. I suggest you split the room in two areas, it doesn't have to be an obvious line but I do think you need to zone off the relaxing part of the room where you watch TV and where you are using it to get to the stairs. I hope that makes sense?
I've done a quick floor plan and taken your dimensions and added them to the plan. I had to improvise with the doors, bay window and also added in the chimney which is not on the original plan.
So there is enough room to get a sofa and depending on how much seating you need two additional armchairs which could hide the stairs a little, I've even added a few plants behind the armchairs to 'screen off' the area if you wanted to. I've assumed that you will want to watch TV in here so I have positioned the TV in the corner. You could add some shelves or even have something made for the corner if you wanted to though I would suggest to keep this room minimal as you will need to get to the stairs.
The other thing I have added are some shelves to the wall opposite the stairs, if this area also acts like a hallway you'll need somewhere to place things as well stuff for your living room. I really hope this rough floor plan gives you some ideas?
Thanks so much for that, that's an amazing idea! I had been debating a chair and small table in the bay window, but I think that might still be in the way of the stairs, so I'm a big fan of your idea! Thanks a lot!
You are welcome! I'm glad you like the layout - its definitely feasible! Just makesure you measure all your furniture out in your living room before purchasing :)
