Walk in closet designing
Hello Everyone,
My husband and I have recently bought a new home and are eagerly waiting to move in a couple months time. We would love to have a walk in closet but are struggling to understand where to fit one to use space optimally. Below is our home layout. Bedroom 1 will be our master bedroom (one with en-suite). Since we don’t think there’s space in master bedroom to include a walk-in closet we are considering converting bedroom 4 into one. Would love to know any ideas you might have for us on where to include a walk-in to make best use of the space we have available!

Comments (16)About your plumber saying "plumb layout is confirmed". That is a load of rubbish. It's fairly easy to move drains around (yes he might have to rip up some walls, but he can also do off-the-wall installations to avoid that). In a small bath proper placement is of the utmost importance!!! If you have the bathtub and shower next to each other that will be much better and then the glass separator idea should work. padmaramachandran's (see post above) setup sounds more reasonable to me as well (see first picture below). This is similar to your setup but as you have more space you could put in bath tub and shower where the picture only shows a bath tub. Also if you do it that way you could theoretically have a bidet or a wider wash basin (small double perhaps too). Example layout: Do you need a bathtub in the guest bath? If not you have a lot more room to work with. E.g. for a double wash basin and large walking shower and a bidet (2nd picture). Example of off-the-wall installation for toilet and bidet and a large walking shower. Finally if you ignore this advice and do it the way you planned ;) then I suggest you really thing about that glass separator. Doing it right will make a lot of difference (see 3rd picture). Wondering what I can do with the other side as I have the chimney wall it’s just not even with the other side. For the upstairs I plan on taking the bath out of the main bathroom and putting it in my ensuite, also will put the wardrobes on both sides of the wall walking in. I have a large family so all the rooms are needed. I just sold out last home and this one has only 2 extra rooms, the office and the sun room so I know what we need. The playroom will turn into a den when the kids get older. The office will double as a spare room as we don't live near our families so they visit regularly. 4 years agoI think you've possibly confused bedroom 3 and bedroom 4. The plan should read like this:-
Bedroom 4 is the smallest at the top of the plan.Therefore, combining bedroom 1 and bedroom 3 ( to make a dressing room ) takes up half of upstairs and leaves you with one further double and a single bedroom.
You are correct, that fitting a walk-in into bedroom 1 isn't possible.
It's not the best use of space. Also cutting down the amount of space and leaving the above will probably de-value the home.
However, there is an alternative ( and i'm sure more than one ), the following is mine. However, it requires a large amount of alterations, and I would always recommend running plans past estate agents for comments on value, before starting anything involving losing a bedroom.
The above gives you a lovely size Master Suite with En-Suite and walk in closet. It also gives a good Family Bathroom and leaves a further two Double rooms.
