rug for LVT flooring ?

Our fitter said we need to get a special door mat in the kitchen area (back door) on our LVT flooring as rubber gets absorbed into the floor and can stain it.
So far I’ve only come across turtle mats which are super expensive but their website is hard to find specific mats so I gave up.

Can anyone recommend a brand?? Is it just rubber/latex to avoid? Ie should I only be looking for cotton backed mats?

Yeah, apparently so. It’s something in the rubber that pulls through into the vinyl. Such a pain! lol. Glad he said though otherwise I would have just used a normal rug!

Love your carpet choices here! I noticed that there no artwork on the walls yet. I agree with the above comment a wooden floor with a rug will get you the best of both world's. Wooden floors are much easier to look after also, I think they tend to last longer than carpets which stain and become worn. If you are starting from scratch with furniture then do for it! Let us know what you choose :).

Would you consider painting your stair railings it would look stunning with soft white paneling and a warm colour on top and in hindsight maybe it wont need a rug..?

yea!! me too... wonder if I can make a plan for something else instead... a built in rug area or something..

Trouble is if you use a cotton rug it's such a slip risk! I wonder whether the material used in the anti slip mats would be a problem? https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/textiles-rugs/rugs/stopp-anti-slip-underlay-art-80227877/ This seems to be polyethylene not rubber... so maybe there's hope?

I saw one in Aldi the other day which was cotton and it has these little sucker things on the bottom (like you get on the bottom of those slipper boots which are cotton based) Not sure what they are made off but possible a plastic perhaps.
Will check the Ikea one out :0)

I’ve been through many a mat though the years and I recently bought a cheapie from Morrisons which does the job well. My last more expensive one blocked up the washing when washing, so that had to go! The bottom looks like a latex but of course I’m not sure! My floor is porcelain tiles. I didnt realise rubber can react, goodness!

I know. I always just buy the cheape ones with that thin rubbery coating on the back that I can wash easily in the machine. But I'm probably best of finding out exactly what causes the yellow staining ie what type of rubber, as it might be easier to find a rug then, LOL

We also were told that. We also felt we couldnt fork out for turtle mats and bought a couple of cheaper options. After about a month, we found the cheap ones were actually sticking to the floor so we bought 2 turtle mats and havent regretted it. I put them in the washing machine every week and they still look like new.

Did you just buy any on there? The one I really liked (topical leaf) typically isn’t suitable, lol.

This is what Ive got and I just got them on amazon. Nothing amazing... in fact quite yuck to look at, but actually now Ive got them, I dont notice them but I am really impressed with their durability. I have had them for over a year now and they have been washed at least 52 times and they are still like new.

Are they as good as they claim at stopping transfer of mud and water? I'm impressed you have the dedication to make sure it gets washed every week!

Gabby ... yes they absolutely are. We have a cheap rubbish one at the other back door and it sinply does nothing. These pretty much keep the floor clean. Actually the reason why i wash them every week is probably coz they do actually grab the dirt, and thus get very dirty. Anyone would think Im getting paid to say this!!! But actually no... Im a turtle mat convert!!! ;-)

Typically anything with a pattern on is double the price!! No wonder you got a plain one. £50 for a door mat is crazy - especially as they are all quite old fashioned looking mats :0(

Does it stay in the floor as it looks like it might move around? @gerty

Yea well i ordered 2 from amazon and when they arrived I was so disappointed in what they looked like I sent them back! And then ended up having to reorder them and pay the delivery charge again!! yes they have a rubbery backing which keeps it firmly in place.

Just seen this. I’ve got a Hug Rug doormat on my LVT, which has underfloor heating. No transference of anything after 4 years. Non slip and washable in a domestic machine as well. I’d definitely recommend.

@gerty yes they look a bit like a bath mat my gran had, lol! They could do with updating the range to something a bit more modern for the price as I’m struggling to want to buy it, ha ha

Which one did you get @ Kiki because I called a uk company that sells them and they didn’t really have a clue, lol.
She said they are all rubber backed - and I said ‘natural rubber or latex’ and she said ‘latex’ which I believe is ok with LVT but as they didn’t know, I’m not confident buying one :0/

I kind of presumed they were all the same construction (except the bath mats) and just the surface designs were different. I had the green/coral/ brown check before and it was exactly the same as my current one.

@Gabby - ha ha, yes indeed. I do resent having to pay a lot for just a doormat / seems crazy when I have ones that cost me £5 I can wash and work well already :0(

Watching this too as our Flor will be lifted and new one down next week. Need a mat and felt feet things for under furniture, karndean say to use magiglide

Didn't know that Ellie... just looked them up and they do look like they'd be good.. hadn't even thought about the sofa/table legs, chair legs etc ......

and they also recommend the turtle mats mentioned above...

Goodness me! It’s been driving me crazy that I keep getting new post notifications but can never see the messages. I’ve only just realised that the new ones NOW ARE AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE! Lol and Whoop at the same time!

Yes!! I realised this yesterday, find it strange it's different on the app to the laptop, but then it's much easier to scroll to the bottom on the website.. so maybe that's why.

Do you find it good at stopping transfer of wet muddy shoe prints?

Mops? Which mop do you use? How do you clean the lvt? Slightly damp mop? Any special ones best? Sorry for barging in on your post but since you got your floor done a few months ago hoping you can help!

At the moment just a bog standard one but my fitter advised using a steam mop.
I also bought a cleaning kit from karndean with a sealer but haven’t used it yet. Oops. Lazy me

Strange, we have been advised by Karndean never ever to use a steam mop as they can get so hot they can melt the glue ( which does make sense since they do use something that looks like a steam mop to lift damaged tiles!)

Oh strange! Not sure then. Maybe someone else has experience as they may just be covering theirs backs in case of lifts ie if it’s not been glued properly, lol

Ah that maybe why then if they haven’t used a high temp glue. Our floors gets really hot and we also have a log burner so it needed it. The hall isn’t done in the hot one though so they do use different adhesives
