That's the estate agent photos with the previous owners stuff as I forgot to take any before pics. :D It's not a super small room, it is about 3m square, It is north east facing, not dark but not the sunniest of rooms.T Gray
4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoThe wallpaper had to go as they had put a BT box up and plastered up to it then wallpapered. Taking that off left a big hole and had to be filled. Steamers are just fabulous and if you don't have one for stripping wallpaper, get one, they make it so much easier.
Unfortunately the wallpaper was hiding a very bad plaster skim job, so I patched it up as best I could with filler and sanded down. Suddenly this job was going from a quick paint job to something a bit bigger, I really should have learnt that from the other rooms by now!

Comments (6)They look perfect together. Maybe add a small scale white with purple polka dots for a third accent. I love the Olive green in there also. I am assuming the mink color sofa is a beige/ tan? I think a purple accent wall will look stunning with the neutrals you have picked and the fun fabrics. Use a minimum of 3 different patterns varying the scale by using small, medium and large patterns. . Use 60% of your favorite pattern, 30% of a second pattern, and 10% of a third pattern as an accent. . The second pattern should be half the scale of the first one and have at least two colors in common with it. If you went with a floral on the first pattern, this one could be a stripe or geometric. You picked a perfect stripe! . The colors of the third pattern should compliment the first two and be the smallest in scale. .The color intensity should be the same for all patterns. I'm asking, because that store seems to be just a bit wider than a door (so about 1 m) which is fine, but doesn't give much space to manoeuvre inside it. Also, a bit too many doors in a small space, but I'm afraid I can't offer you a remedy for that. You have two wide, massive windows and a door in between, I think that will give plenty of light. Personally, I'd just add skylights or a glass roof. Or a long strip of glass all along What you don't seem to have is ventilation windows. Trust me, you're going to want one in the utility, or at least a good fan. Transom style windows could work too if you can open them. I really wish you'd see an architect... there are lots of different, small things that a professional can spot from miles away that you wouldn't even consider. Comments (37)It looks very good James. Even though as you say it was a clients design build, it works fine. Once the Island has stools it will fill it out better. Has that naked look at the moment. The position of the wine rack might cause issues but overall it looks like a really clean and fresh kitchen. Plenty of natural light and the colours compliment each other. The extractor is a nice feature too. Everyone has different opinions as I see on here but if the client is happy with it then job done. Comments (14)Hello nicnoll, Another idea could be to have a wall light that is all about the bulb! A few links to both ideas.... Copper is good too... Or you run them in loops across the ceiling to the opposite wall and have a wall light fitting but the electric cable comes from the one ceiling point. So less to do wiring wise.. One thing to note is that I ended up painting the skirting the same blue. The floors are a mahogany colour and the skirting and doors are orangey pine. It looked a bit rubbish. One rush out to Johnstones for a tin of eggshell later and the skirtings were done. Only problem was they gave me oil and not water based. Going to swap it out for water based to do the radiator and the windowsill.T Gray
4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoI was genuinely thrilled that it looked pretty ok and not dark and gloomy. Now I had to figure out how to turn it into a really nicely furnished room.
With such a strong colour I didn't think the curtains should be the focal point of the room. Anything contrasting with the walls would unbalanced the room I think. Luckily Dunelm had exactly the right colour and in a blackout too.
Accents in the room needed to complement the blue so I chose metallics and blush

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoThis is how it turned out. It's not completely done yet though.
The radiator needs painting in the same blue, as does the window sill. The window recess will be painted in a blush. The bedside cabinets are a temporary fix until I can get replacements for the matching ones I am currently using in our main bedroom. Also I think navy bedding is needed. We have a light fitting to put up as well, so will post a completed pic when we can get that all done.We had the Vettriano prints already and they look stunning against the blue. Overall I am really pleased with the effect.
If anyone is debating whether to go really dark like this, I would suggest you just go for it. If you were going to paint anyway, choose the colour you like and just do it. As the other half said to me, it's only paint! :)

4 years agoWell done you - and you didn’t even ask our permission lol! Glad curtains are the same shade as walls, always my favourite option. I painted one wall in my kitchen navy and I’m really pleased with it. We are all slowly going over to the dark side! I think the wood goes very well with the navy too. Here’s my navy wall (i‘m a bit too scared to do it all dark!)
