Continuity from one room to another

Hi, my kitchen and living room are two rectangles at right angles to each other (see attached floor plan). I'm having the dividing wall replaced with sliding glass doors to let more light into the kitchen. I want to create a feeling of flow between the two rooms by painting the walls the same colour and having the same flooring. As the rooms face different directions what's the best way to arrange the flooring? Laminate in one room will flow the wrong way in the other room. I don't want plain vinyl (too boring).

Also is it really possible to create the feeling of one large space if I'm installing doors like the ones in the second picture?

I’d suggest you fit the flooring so that it runs from the front of the house to the back - and keep it the same throughout .

Any pics of your tiles? I have seen your other post and know your suite is 'traditional' but another thing to consider I guess is the cost of the mosaics. £££ using lots may mean a big dent in your budget.

I would definitely go for a larger kitchen therefore a swap. Also if structure allows to remove this little bit of unnecessary wall by current kitchen entrance would make the space more open.( I think in the other plan I see it is happening?) the outside door swap for a window is a very good idea in my mind.

As a general rule, make sure to lay your floor in the same direction as the main light source in a room and in the same line as the most frequently used entrance.

If the room is narrow you may want to lay the boards width-wise. This will make the surface appear wider.

You can also lay your floor diagonally. This helps joining two rooms.

Alternatively you may want to use chevron or herringbone parquet for less directional pattern.

The door will indeed open up the space with lots of light. My only suggestion is that you should try to use sliding doors that hangs completely, rather than sliding doors with a slot in the floor.
