Budget venetian blinds
Does anyone know where I can get hold of budget real wood ready-made venetian blinds? Ikea have stopped selling them for safety reasons. They're for the front bedroom windows of my house (below). Both rooms are small (one is tiny) and occupied by my student daughters who are often in their rooms during the day. They need privacy but controllable light during the day plus something which doesn't back light them at night. I dont like rollers and romans as they block light across the top of the windows, and the windows are ridiculously big so they'd be very bulky. Voiles plus curtains are fussy and expensive, plus they don't have the adjustable qualities of venetians. I need 108cm wide 200cm long blinds, and I can't find them anywhere. I can't afford to get made to measure ones. Or is there an alternative?

Comments (5)Hi, We're often asked about the best way to achieve a blackout effect. The key is to realise that most blackout products offer a degree of room-darkening, but not total blackout. Layering is a great way to help achieve this, but in your case you're obviously limited with this. Curtains with a blackout lining are effective as they cover the whole window, but they still have a degree of light flare - where the light creeps in at the edge of the window - as they sit proud of the window on a pole or rail. Moreover, Roman blinds with a blackout lining are effective, but they too sit slightly in front of the window and allow some light in at the edge. One thing I'd suggest in your situation is PerfectFit Roller blinds with a blackout coating. PerfectFit is a clever little system which clips into uPVC window frames, meaning each blind fits each piece of glazing perfectly. Combining this with a Roller blind with a blackout coating is a great way to lessen the light flare. Then, in the future if you could stretch to curtains as well, you could layer two blackout fabrics for an even greater effect. 5 years agoThanks all! AMB, Dunelm was a good shout. I'd looked there before but the website in my phone doesn't have size filters so I assumed after looking at a few blinds that they didn't do the longer lengths. They do, but only in a couple of blinds. They're fabulously cheap, and pretty neutral, so that'll do me. I will eventually get some curtains up in those rooms too, but at the moment it's the look of the house from outside that I'm focussing on.
