We have a 1960 bungalow as below... I have searched for years ... yes years to find the right look to transform the ugly front into a stunner... I know it can be done but just can’t seem to find the right look for it ... we are looking at putting in some dormer as need the head height .. plus extended out the side to create entrance and single garage. The garage behind will be knocked down to create more garden space and a large utility/boot room. But before we start I really want to have a better idea what the front is going to look like once all pulled together.... if anyone has done something similar with these tricky 1960’s looking bungalows I would be great to see or hear your ideas ... I’ve added some looks I like to pictures but my partner and I have differ in opinion... he likes modern rendered look ( but my fear is this will soon date ) I’m thinking going more cottage look !? We live in a village so would suit this exterior look and think buck the trend for white render dark frames too .... oh please do help !??

Comments (10)Hi Maria. It's a lovely kitchen and I must admit I like the white so would probably change the accessories. I would add a huge sunburst clock or mirror above the cabinets (can't work out if it's a clock or mirror above the fire). Add a statement light over the table. Try a coloured splashback behind the cabinets. Add some coloured stools. I would say paint the kitchen chairs but I can see they are good quality! If you do want to paint then either blues, violets or even a very soft grey if you add some coloured accesories. I think it is too drab and have changed mine for glass and various off whites as the rooms are non-square here and the house is old but takes modern too. My gut feeling is that the way forward is to choose an exciting "theme" for downstairs first. Would you consider bright and airy sky, or tropical, or geometric, or bookish, or carnival, or countryside, what about a space rocket on the wall for the kids - it can be covered when they grow tired of it? And as it is it has my pet hate - a good window - wasted - with a grim reminder of housework - a sink in front of it instead of one out of sight with a strip light over it!!!!...See More

For me I think I would be replacing the windows with a different shaped aperture and rendering.
Given that there also seems to be a sun trap at the front I think there need to be doors from a front room to that patio space and some barrier to separate it from the drive to give privacy do you need this much driveway?
