Room layout for lounge. Narrow victorian house+reinstalling hallway

Hello!

Having difficulty with our room layout. Luckily we will have underfloor heating so no need for a radiator under the window. Should we go for a corner sofa?

How big/small is your household? And from what I can read (tiny numbers..) your lounge area will be 2 meter wide? What goes in the back room? Kitchen/diner?

Hi! The width of the house is 3.9m so quite narrow and at the back if the house will be kitchen/diner with basement. We don't have a front garden really as it's a townhouse that sits on the pavement! So reinstalling the hallway would be beneficial. But I am thinking that the wall could be partial glass......Your opinion would be so welcome! Thank you

HI -- gross635 -- Your right to some degree but you can't move the main floor bath to the other side because then that interfers with the floor plan on the second floor. Would not work . I would have loved to turn the whole plan around but it won't work in this case. Added note to what I posted before is to get rid of anywalls you don't need and also not every room has to have a door. Like the one on the lounge and the one at the end of the hall. I would open the lounge up by not having the walls on the entrance hall . As for a closet , there is space in front of the set back powder room for some coat hooks etc. I also question the fact of , if the lounge is really needed. Everything could have been shifted to the front and the kitchen set back , then that would have made a larger dining/familyroom area . But that would have ruined the resale value . So I think moving the bathrooms was the lest and best for this plan. One question I have , is this an English plan ?, because the English love putting doors on every room ?And usually the doors swing the wrong way.

You should lay them the best way for that particular room so if its narrow go width-ways, if its wide go length-ways. It is very common to have differing ways in the same home. Our Victorian house has original floorboards to the entire ground floor and the hallway boards swap directions when you get to the side return. Joists are usually laid to get the shortest span to avoid sag and thus the floorboards on top counter this so houses often have both directions.

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. If you don't want to make the wall itself straight, maybe consider playing with some deep shelves ABOVE the TV, that could go from the diagonal wall to the straight line where you want to put the TV. Then behind the TV you could have a vertical panel of the same colour/material of the shelves (or matching the colour of the wall) to connect the TV stand to the first shelf and hide the awkward wall. To avoid having empty space right beside the door you could put a narrow shelving unit (with a back panel, not an open one) between the TV stand/panel and the straight wall (or beside it if it's short) that goes from floor to first shelf, again I'm imagining same colour/material of the rest so it binds seamlessly rather than looking like patchwork to fill the space. It's a little complicated to explain but I hope it makes sense!

Reinstalling a 97cm wide hallway is only beneficial for insulation, since it's not really wide enough to double as wardrobe. Could you post a clearer floorplan with better/more measurements please?
