Staircase ideas...

Hi There,
We moved into a house over a year ago and it hasn't got a handrail or a balustrade... just a big gap! Pretty dangerous, if you ask me! I'm usually ok with coming up with ideas but this has completely stumped me and I have absolutely no idea what to do with it. Don't want block it up as it does let the hallway and stair area get more light. So... some help would be really amazing! Here are some pics...

Comments (1)Hello Lorna, Do you want to paint the staircase?... Or put some lovely natural flooring like Jute or Coir but only as a runner would be my suggestion.... and paint the edges white.. I do personally love that look... It's quite traditional but depending on the colour you use can actually be really modern. Or if it's a beautiful wood, then perhaps consider that it could benefit from a varnish or wax.. Comments (7)I cant remember back if 2 year olds can climb, but if they can you might need a smooth finish so they have nothing to grip and climb,I would also suggest a sign making company they do a thing product called acrylic or corrugated ,this cut to size would also do they would need to drill holes in the acrylic for you possibly...See More

5 years agoI like the glass or slat idea above, and just put your hand rail the other side. I actually prefer the slat idea more, as I think it sits better with the house style and your doors etc. As you have wooden style flooring putting in varnished wooden slats would give it a modern twist but still look great against the floor.
