Interior Design of a Games Room in Esher, Surrey.

The brief was to help design a statement games room for my clients chosen games. A room to entertain in, wind down and most importantly enjoy playing an assortment of games.

It was important that the games themselves took centre stage and their surroundings were cool and modern with splashes of colour to bring in an additional element of fun.

Cool grey linen wallpaper was chosen for the main walls and shimmer strata wallpaper to accent the bar area, keeping them simple but adding subtle texture and glamour for interest.

Large square grey tiles were chosen for the floor, a bespoke bar area was designed for refreshments as well as spectators. Bright orange bar stools and a midnight blue pool table cloth added an element of fun and also tie in with the adjacent living rooms art work and sofas.

This created a contemporary, exciting games room for both players and spectators to enjoy and unwind.

Hi, I noticed that you have roof-light blinds closed and artificial lights on - is this normal use? Do you get glare from the roof-lights?

Hi, thank you for your question. No that was just for the photo shoot at the orientation of the house means it gets a lot of sun through the roof-lights. I assume my clients would have them closed, should they want to use the room on a very bright day. I hope that helps.

I do not have picture of space but the feet and inches are as follows. 78.5 inches wall which should incorporate fridge freezer with boiler on top. This space meets the door and I think the high object would look best in that position. There is a window in centre of this space which I propose putting cupboards over to have extra storage space. I will create extra light to replace window light over the adjoining door. The other wall is 86.5". this wall meets the lounge/dining area with patio door off to terrace. My concern is worktop space, I thought this end might best incorporate the cooker with microwave overhead. I would be most grateful for your help. Regards Teresagolf

In the above photo measure from ceiling down to where shelves are to placed. Do this at each corner. Depending on how your house settled this will ensure that the shelves parallel the ceiling. The shelves may not be "level" per say but will have that level look

At the very least, assume that a 26-foot room needs to be divided into two zones, whether one is couch + TV and the other is a game table, or whether both are somehow seating. The French doors complicate matters, but I think it can be worked around, either by counting the piano as a functional zone (although it will be hard to keep in tune with all the windows and radiator) and then do most things at the opposite end, or whether you want to put a game table there, piano opposite, and most living space at the invisible far end...

HI Sophie, Thanks so much for the suggestions. We would never have thought of moving the sink - I guess you get used to things where they have always been! Just so I can understand and visual where you suggest moving things to, when you say move the fridge down to opposite the pennisula, do you mean near the entry to the kitchen (where the small three cupboards are shown on the drawing above) or where the cooktop is currently? I know one concern that my mum has is that the width of the fridge will jut out too far into the kitchen, taking up too much room. I've attached a picture with dimensions on it. Keep the suggestions coming :)
