boxy looking bungalow

Hi,
I have a 1980s bungalow. Love it inside after lots of work upgrading it from and untouched 80s interiors and with most bungalows it’s surprisingly spacious.
However the outside is what it is, extremely boxy and with a disproportionate amount of roof!
Sorting out the garden is the next stage but I am also wondering what I can do to the front to give it some interest. I’ve looked at a fully enclosed brick porch and it came out really expensive.
I did wonder about the open timbre porches I’ve seen, although how it would interact with the low roof I’m not sure.
I’d love to hear how people have given their boxy houses, and bungalows, some interest for a reasonable cost.

Comments (9)I think the room could be much more elegant if you dry walled the end of the pony wall up to the ceiling which would give you a more centered fireplace which could then turn into a focal point with a proper mantel. Right now the set-up looks sort of busy and odd, especially with all the books in the built-in. If you chose to do that I would get rid of the bookcase. If you want to keep the current set up, beefing up the wood on the mantel as Scott Design suggested would be an inexpensive way to improve its appearance. You would get your extra room and depending on what you decide on ( size/style/final use etc), most can be built under permitted development rules, so no planning permission would be required. We build ours with Structurally Insulated Panels (SIP) panels, so they are quick to erect, cheap to heat and last forever. My husband likes the cream tiles & although I do like the look of them in a kitchen, I also worry about them being / looking cold if they were through the whole house. Plus it would most likely be me cleaning them every day! So it will be wood floors for us....See More
