Comments (37)Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)...See MoreWhat should we do with this fireplace?
Comments (9)That's a working fireplace isn't it? I agree that the fire surround is probably not in keeping with your tastes and would probably look perfectly at home in a rustic country cottage, but just not for you. There are several options open to you, and if your a bit handy with the DIY, none of them need to cost much, it's just a little hard work. Remove the fire surround and see what dimensions you have with the actual fireplace, it might be that you can also remove the iron plate around it, thus leaving you with a much smaller actual fire. However, be aware that it will affect, the plaster, the skirting and the hearth, as everything is currently built to home the fire surround. You could go............at that point for making good the walls and keep it simple by having a floating shelf only, or another fire surround that's simpler. Loads on Ebay! Just make sure they're suitable for a working fire!...See MoreAlcove shelving
Comments (0)I am looking for some ideas for shelving the alcoves beside our fireplace. I love the black, classic ornate detail on the fire surround and the coving so I would like to compliment that style. I will be removing the dado rail and painting the room also. I need shelving/cupboard for the television on one side as you can see. I would like a spot for a lamp and accessories on the other side. Has anybody any tips for me? Any colour suggestions? Should I keep the walls light to let the fireplace stand out?...See MoreShort term kitchen solution
Comments (3)Thanks for the reply. You have a good point about saving for the renovation. My original idea was just to put our fridge where the current one is and take out the big surround and get a (cheap) island with seating (I have counter stools from my current island) and push it against the wall (but parallel to the range cooker) That's probably a cheaper option. The kitchen is only 3.3 x 2.75 wide so not big enough for an island in the middle. My mind is in overdrive redecorating this house!!...See MoreKP Anderson
