urgent advice on frameless shower screens

Hi we’re in the middle of a house renovation. We have two bathrooms and wanted to install frameless shower screens like the pic attached. We channelled into the wall and floor and have ordered bespoke glass screens 10mm thick. Our plumbers are now saying that it’s not safe to install them without brackets. Any advice? I think they just haven’t done it before and don’t know how. If anyone can help would appreciate any help or advice

    I’ve been speaking to several shower screen companies about ordering a screen like this (Majestic, Showerlab, Glasstrends all v good brand) and they all recommend using either a horizontal or a ceiling bracket. Otherwise the screen could end up a bit wobbly over time or could come away from its fixings if you were to fall against it. I didn’t want a ceiling bracket either but am going to have one as wouldn’t want to take these risks.


    I doubt it’s that the builders haven’t done it before, it’s actually easier for them not to install a ceiling bracket...


    I believe these companies all do a range of finishes eg Majestic’s “Monaco” screen can have the metal bits in Antique Gold which will fit in with your brass.


    Just re read and realised your shower screens are already ordered. What does your shower company say about brackets? Do they say it’s ok?

      Also our bathroom fittings are all brass. If we do need brackets they only seem to come in chrome

      As long as it tuffened glass I really can’t see the issue esp if the floor and wall are channeled! I’d only be doing the wall, saying that, I’ll be putting my own in.

      It is toughened glass but they are worried it won’t stay put. Are they being over cautious or am I being naive

      Hi and thanks all. We installed the glass and one of our screens completely smashed! Seeing glass everywhere we know decided to support the screens. We’re on the lookout for any brackets we can use in gold that would work well

      Toughened glass is very susceptible to any unevenness, uneven stress at any point will cause it to shatter, I had a frameless piece of glass in my en-suite, tracked into the wall (slotted into a 1inch deep channel and covered in) and set on a bed of silicone with no channel, no issues for 4 years until I put the wet room in, sorry to hear your glass broke, both upright and base need to be at 90 degrees to each other, this is a must.

      We’ve had a frameless shower screen on for 13 years in en-suite. Clear silicone at bottom and one narrow pole bracket on the top corner. Never had any issues. You don’t really notice the bracket as it’s so small and in line with the rest of the design.

      I think your plumber was correct, most of frameless shower screen comes with a metal bar and bracket sto stablise the shower screen.
