Big window in lounge, onlookers!
Here’s hoping someone can give suggestions for this, we have a very large window in our living room with two opening windows at the top. The light coming in the room is fantastic, however, onlookers are not great.
People walk past the front hedge and can see right in. There are also flats the other side of the street with balconies. Onlookers is an understatement, we often get waved at, which is lovely but proves they can see more than I would like them to.
We have dogs that like to sit on the window ledge, so this should be taken into account, they will probably rip anything accidentally if in reach of paws.

Comments (17)Simplify is always a good strategy with play rooms. The temptation to cover the walls with artwork and posters can add to the visual clutter. I would suggest a larger area rug to ground the space and create a soft place for playing on the floor. A medium colour with a fleck from other hues in the curtains and upholstery will help hide dirt and lint. I think you could definitely cozy it up with a warm wall colour to unify the space. Comments (14)Thanks everyone. AMN - The lighting in the photo isn't great - the walls and venetian blinds are both white and the green is a wallpaper. I've a TV on one side and radiator on the other side of the wall but I do like the idea of painting it a different colour. What do you mean by "because the sectional is too big for the space already" thanks! Dar Eckert - like your suggestion of introducing another colour, I was thinking about aubergine but again it could be over modern and not the slightly warm vibe I'm looking for - what do you think? Comments (37)Hi, thanks for your comment. I totally agree - I actually have a large art print on order (vertical/ portrait orientation) and that will be replacing the mirror when it arrives. From previous comments I received everyone seems have different opinions on sofa choices but I think I'm pretty happy with the L shape one I've gone with - it fits the space a lot better (I think!) than the 3 & 2 seaters I previously had. That looks like a lovely layout I really like the open plan but our driveway around the house will come from the left side so that's why we had thought of addiing the extension to the right. I'm sure we could use your idea on the right side and it would still throw in plenty of light. Regarding the rooms: the long room to the right is the current kitchen which is currently very dark and cold, the small room behind this is the utility, the two rooms to the left of this are a front living room and back lounge. 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI have a very wide lounge window and inherited the vertical blinds, mine are cream, ideally I’d have white, but I love them, they can go in so many different ways, and catch the light.. the only thing is the dogs, could you have a lit table in front for dogs to sit on ?

3 years agoHi Rhosei, wooden venetian blinds would probably be your best option as they offer very good light control as well privacy. They are also a cheaper alternative to shutters.

3 years agoI am overlooked front and back and living in a town means there are many houses nearby. I have a huge bay window at the front. It isn’t a problem for me being overlooked, but some of my neighbours have put in shutters as Patrina suggests and they look lovely. They’re not cheap but you can adjust how much of a view or light you receive and still have the privacy you crave.
