Needs a facelift?
Comments (13)I have a tile roof, and they make going mod kind of difficult, but they do add charm. With the sort of earthy color scheme i posted before, you could paint the bricks with masonry paint in a paler tone like sw ancient marble or wash them with a more grayed green so they add taupe tones if you do the chimneys the same - but really, the color resonates with the roof, so use it as color inspiration. Look at 100 year old homes with lines like this and their window mullions - if the upper elements and sides of the larger picture window had muntins / grilles, they would be more charming. Still, you are aiming at retro farmhouse with the muntins, not necessarily authentic historic . . but that gives you some concept about how to go and search for inspiration. You don't have to tear out the entire ramp - could widen "pad/porch" to left and put stairs right down the front depending on car park / depth to roadway design - have your ramp and stairs and just take off the old handrail too . . great for universal design when selling tho railing is not attractive....See MoreDormer exterior lacks kerb appeal
Comments (25)Hello egreevy, Okay, yes I see, it's a difficulty but maybe not impossible... Just whether you want to try to find out more about this.. Taking windows out to paint is a bigger job but it may still be possible.. ... So for the immediate.. Paint the front door (just the door) it might give a nice finish to have the side windows white.. Then you have a bit of contrast like your image above.. and add window boxes with lovely foliage or buxus.. it will work with the green you already have... I couldn't see as my screen was dimmed.. I think leaving all the ivy colour you have at present would be really nice.. (hence my suggestion of more green!! Also I wouldn't paint the pebble dash, to me it looks absolutely fine on the house itself.. Maybe the small boundary wall at the front and a bit of the garage.. Also a flat box hedge coming over the top of the boundary wall could be nice too.. It will be lovely and green.. : ) )...See MoreFireplace Help
Comments (5)If you want the look of the fireplace you posted but are scared that the dark grey will flood your room, you could paint just the one panel/side wall with the grey, paint the fireplace frame white, and then paint the rest of the room a more light neutral colour. It will also create a more contemporary look and create more focus to your fireplace. Alternatively you may feel more safe to paint the fireplace frame a neutral colour to match the neutral walls. When you are ready to replace the fireplace, I would suggest a bio ethanol burner as a simple solution with minimal DIY work and an option of different styles. Good luck, and please feel free to visit our profile if you're in need of more fireplace inspiration!...See MoreNorthfacing red brick needs curb appeal suggestions truly welcome
Comments (8)Your house is very attractive but a little TLC is required. If possible depending on budget limitations, I would do the following to soften the edges and add a manicured, polished yet homely feeling to the house: Area needing attention: Front door and surrounds Issue: Lack of a focal point, has no presence and appears to recess into the house • Remove all potted plants from outside the front door • Remove the seat from under the main window • Rent/borrow a water power washer to clear away the moss/weeds • Paint the front door (if wood) a dolphin grey colour and add a door wreath (radiates warmth) • Purchase 2 potted Bay trees (Laurus Nobilis) to be placed either side of the newly painted front door to frame the doorway • Put up a postbox on the wall to the right of the front door • Add 2 external candle lanterns to enhance the ambience for house viewings...See MoreThe first The
