Hi! I’m hoping someone can give me some advice/ suggestions.
The banisters in my new house have seen better days. The actual stairs have some nice detailing, but they appear to have had a very questionable 1960’s ‘makeover’ (the house is a 1930’s terrace.)
The handrail is actually quite nice. It’s got quite grooved detailing, but it has a curved underside with what appears to be crosses in it.
My question is is three in three parts:
1: Does anyone know if this looks like the original handrail?
2: If so, would it have had spindles (on the crosses, possibly??)
3: Is it possible to put the spindles back in without renoving the hand rail/ newel post etc.
As they currently stand, they fail building regs, look awful and are REVOLTINGLY DIRTY. (Really rubbish photos below)
Any advice welcome!
