Repaint painted tiles...?

Hi guys. So, bought a house with painted tiles on the kitchen walls and back splash. Problem is they're really ugly - dull matt paint. As we're skint after buying the house we'll have to wait a few years before doing the kitchen refit we want. So we'd like to freshen it up without too much expense. We'd like to repaint and maybe stencil the tiles... But can we repaint over already painted tiles? Are we better to strip off the existing paint first? If anyone's any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Very light sand, wipe off all dust then paint with a roller.
As well as stencils you could consider tile decals (basically patterned sticky back plastic designed to go on tiles). An internet search will brink up massive choice. Try to buy something that is a shade smaller than your existing tiles for a nicer finish. Alternatively choose a design that can be cut down and get a sharp craft knife for the job.

If you like a traditional finish, beadboard panelling can be fixed over existing tiles and when painted appropriately works brilliantly in the kitchen, even behind the hob.

I need to tile a couple of walls in my bathroom which in the original design were meant to be painted. The painted walls would look better, but it's not possible now. So is there any tips on how to make a tiled wall look more like a painted one. I was thinking perhaps by using large matt tiles with grouting of the same colour? The colour is white for the tiles.

Would suggest white! A warm white like wimbourne white. All of the most beautiful rooms in my house are painted white! Then add in some wall art and some plants.
