Thoughts on whether I should paint the stair case of not?
Thinking satin white or eggshell if I do (please ignore awful carpet! Will be replaced once I have made a decision on the staircase).
I know it does match the downstairs doors but what you probably can’t see in the photo is the poor condition the staircase and exposed skirting boards are in thanks to the previous owners (chips, paint marks etc).

5 years agoSo love your spacious hallway! I think if you paint it, it will be a great improvement. I would paint the skirting and dado rail too. It will brighten everything up a treat. Don’t just think white, sometimes a touch of dark looks stunning, and perhaps leaving the post newel and top rail natural can look very cosy. Here’s a few pics to inspire you

Hi there! To paint! It's will make the staircase look great. I also recomend to use staicase runner. It's will compliment not just staircase but all house.

5 years agoI’d paint it - maybe 2 tone as some of the comments suggest. I did mine this summer, absolutely love how stylish it looks. I used chalk paint which needed no undercoat (some mahogany coloured stain previously) - although the grey took better than the white. Your stair gate suggest kids, I have 3 small ones and a few chips have appeared on mine, but overall I’m pleased with it. It gets a lot of comments when people come over. (We also need new carpet but holding off until the youngest gets potty trained)
