Hi we have a mass area with Junga Marble flooring over under floor heating. Our challenge is can we apply parquet engineered wood over the top or have to rip up the marble flooring which we know will be soooo messy and costly to do. The marble flooring would be fine if it was not "beige" in colour. My interior design is to be very scandi/danish and this will not work. We are concerned about impacting on the UFH if we apply the new flooring over the top.
Buy a meter square of the flooring you like and lay it over the top - see if the heat still comes through.
Also check for areas of conflict like by raising the floor will it make the last stair step stubby - will it affect doors that can’t /shouldn’t be trimmed or altered, will it affect you fitted furniture height - if in a kitchen for example - will make the worktop seem lower.
Make an honest pro and con list . It might be easier to introduce some cream into your interior design scheme and keep the existing floor.
This is a relatively common situation in Italy where traditionally, floors are made of either stone or ceramics. In order to fit engineered floors over existing floors, manufactures have developed thin engineered boards 10 or 11mm thick that can be glued straight onto and existing marble floors.
the total thickness will be 11mm + 1 or 2mm for the glue for a max thickness of 13mm.
Thin boards are available up to 200mm wide 1200 to 2400mm long and once installed look exactly like any other engineered floorboard.
No prob for the UFH as 11mm of wood wont stop the heat.
thank you for the input really helpful. Managed to find an excellent limestone restorer who is going to sandblast and create a lighter matt stone finish - looks super !!
