HELP! Need to finish living room
Hi. We are stuck with the living room project and would love ideas. Room is 16x24ft
We got the basics already but not sure if the coffee table fits or needs a different finish.
We can leave styling for later but would love ideas for the sides/walls. The walls on the sides of the fireplace are 8ft wide each. Thanks!!!

5 years agoGreat space! Not crazy about your coffee table and I agree it's the finish. I'd consider a lucite or glass table. Or perhaps a round marble top one. Photos for illustrative purposes only - didn't check sizes. :)

Comments (21)Seeing it as an almost whole, I do think now that I like the soft, patterned curtain for the room. It could become overly severe, and that would be enough to stop that happening. Second thought, you don't need a side table for the sectional, but you do need something there to hold a lamp -- silver or glass would probably be best. The stand could be very plain, a box shape, even, in the same finish as the wood you already have. I liked these from wayfair.com -- though I might change the shades on a couple of them. Comments (9)Thanks, I wasn't sure where the 9'4 measurement came in. If you're buying all new furniture then look for items on legs, as you can see the floor beneath it will make the space feel bigger. You can also use glass ie a glass coffee table or Louis ghost chairs for example. I'd also go for a large mirror over the hearth or not knowing your style could also have a ŵall of glass tiles for the same effect which will also bounce light. I'd go for a pale tone sofa and use warmer/darker colours for cushions if wanted. If you want a rug then I'd keep it in the same tone as the floor else to visually maximise floor space. I've drawn a very rough plan (not entirely to scale and obviously not knowing where doors etc are!). I assume you're wanting to buy furniture before you move in? If so do you have a similar size room where you could cut out paper templates of all furniture to see if the space works? I would mount the tv on the ŵall if you have one. Hanging it over a slim console (or slim cabinet for storage) means you can add art on the ŵall and accessorise the console so the tv doesn't become the feature of the ŵall. You could go for a coffee table or a small footstool which can double up as extra seating and table. I'd go for a round dining table, 3ft will seat 4 and you can pull it away from the corner when entertaining. i'd go for a 2 seater sofa (c5f?) but try and get a slim one. I don't know the size of the windows but blinds, shutters may also be an idea so curtains don't encroach on the floor space? Comments (2)I think the only place you could put a tv is probably the corner by the window...over the fireplace is probably too high. a walnut floor and new fresher paint colour would be lovely, would you consider painting the skirting boards and fireplace white or off white to modernise them a bit? we've painted the skirting in our living room (also a walnut floor) and it looks so much better than before. Since you have so much symmetry, it might be fun to break it up a bit on either sided of the fireplace. Perhaps a combination of the above: Console and mirror on one side, bench with art on the other.
Whatever you decide to do, I definitely think you have to address your lighting. One lamp and an overhead fixture (?), really isn't sufficient for layered lighting and ambience.

5 years agoI like your living room. I would try a different coffee table that is not so big and more fitting with the style of your very cool chairs and sofa. Glass and metal come to mind. Change the rug and hang some art on the fireplace. Maybe some fun sculptures or Maybe update the drapes or add some color with wall paint....

- round mirror on the fireplace -foto
- large abstract painting (55x40") on the wall to the right of fireplace -foto but will go with orange instead of yellow-
- console table -foto- + one or two paintings on the wall between fireplace and curtains
regarding the console and the coffe table, still need to sort out the wood finish...
would all this work?
