Indian sandstone nightmare?

We're having an extension built and decided to go for a light grey, polished Indian sandstone patio but I am already regretting it. It's been down for 3 days and has already acquired various stains from a nearby tree, various water marks and builder footprints and every time I give it a scrub it leaves another stain...basically it already looks a mess. Nightmare.
I read that you should let slabs weather for a season before sealing them and the builder still hasn't grouted it so I haven't done it yet. Is it already too late or can they be restored to their former glory once the builder's finished and then sealed?
