That was my immediate thought and also means that you will get light into your living area all day since the kitchen would be at the front and the living room at the back. It will be a nicer space to live in. If you really can't face bedrooms at the front though could you do something like this? It clearly isn't to scale!! You probably sacrifice a bit of space in that smallest bedroom but gain much more liveable floor space at the front of the house. It also gives your husband the open pan area he likes. It does sacrifice a separate entrance way though. I'd also shift the bathroom wall out and steal some space from the utility room so that you have a larger bathroom....See MoreUpcycle mental block! Comments (7)Dear Éilíse Sullivan, the mahogany wardrobe looks like a great project! The image is too small for me to see the details of it; it looks like has glass/metal door at the top part and design details on the draws. If you send me a better quality image and with the door closed I can visualised it for you in any other colour you like if it helps. Replacing part of the furniture (glass) with solid panels covered in wall paper or fabric, using decoupage for the inside of the drawers or muted colours on the outside and brights on the inside ... are all possibility depending in which room you want to place it and what you are going to use it for. Are you going to do it for yourself, just for fun or to sell/present? I would paint the back panel in a darker colour, also the inside of the wardrobe part and all the horizontal and vertical straight lines to frame the different units: draws, 'open shelf' cabinet at the top and door. I would go for wall paper on the inside of the draws, something sympathetic with the darker tone on the back panel ... the handle can stay or be replaced (I need a closer look); they can really give a wist to the furniture if changed. For the choice of colours ... it really depend on where it goes and what you want to do with it. The room's images you posted are quite different in style. You could try to 'blend' the piece in to the room's design scheme by choosing complementary colours or go the opposite and bring in a bold statement. I like bold statements! I found this link with fab images that may help you see how a furniture with more details then a plain one will looks once painted: http://www.pippajamesoninteriors.co.uk/2011/design-post/a-guide-to-shabby-chic-furniture-painting/ Also have a look at this company https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jay-Co/100811059987662?sk=timeline it may inspire you to take a different direction! Have fun and please post an 'after' pic when done, really curios to see the final result! Elena Jackson - Interior & Design...See MoreA face lift
Comments (3)Hello mn0304, I think it looks very nice!! Don't really see institution at all... Some foliage and large pots for decoration or with Olive trees between the windows would be lovely... Difficult to see what type of windows they are.. Sash and wood would mean they could be painted a nice colour.. I'd suggest a granite or dark green.. If they are upvc with a grid design between two panes as I have just come across with another person I offered suggestions to.. then that's a bit tricky.. I don't have any experience with upvc but I do know of products that allow you to paint onto plastic.. Can't see the front door to offer any suggestions here.. but if you can't paint the windows I would think of two bays at the front door... and some lovely large stone pots between the side windows.. You could also carry the large pot idea down the side of the drive at intervals.. This one is terracotta but you can also find faux.... Then more money for roof! :))...See MoreNeed help decorating main bedroom
Comments (0)I am about to re-decorate main bedroom and need your help. Currently one wall has built-in wardrobes in Mahogany which I want to paint in a soft grey together with bedside lockers and dressing table. I would like one feature wall behind the bed head (bed head is a classic brass design which I want to retain unchanged) I was thinking of a wallpaper in possibly an aubergine colour; or maybe I should wallpaper the other two walls in aubergine and do something else behind the bed..... I really need your help I'm stuck. Also what colour/fabric should I have the curtains in? The room faces north-east and has a roomy en-suite fully tiled in tiny mosaic white tiles with a black/silver/glass mosaic tile border at dado rail height. Should both of these rooms blend into each other or does it matter?...See Morejenmason014
